Investigators with the Lancaster County Multijurisdictional Narcotics Task Force arrested a Kershaw man Friday, August 21, 2026, and charged him with Trafficking Fentanyl 4-14 Grams, Trafficking Methamphetamine 28-100 Grams, and Trafficking Co***ne 28-100 Grams. Investigators were in the Kershaw area Friday morning following up on drug complaints and observed Claude Andrew Shields, 65, on a bicycle leaving an area under investigation. Shields was stopped on Fork Hill Road for not following the rules of the road for bicyclists.
After he was stopped and got off his bicycle, Shields walked behind a bush before approaching the investigator to talk with him. He consented to a search, and the investigator found approximately $1,500.00 cash in Shieldsβ pocket. Another investigator arrived, and a bag was found behind the bush where Shields had just been. The bag contained 7.59 grams of suspected Fentanyl, 47.7 grams of suspected Methamphetamine, and 32.65 grams of suspected Co***ne. Shields was arrested and transported to the Lancaster County Detention Center, where warrants were served upon him. A magistrate denied bond for Shields Saturday morning, and he is still in the detention center. Shieldsβ photograph and a photograph of the items seized are attached.
βMost of our large seizures of illegal drugs come from houses or cars, and this bicycle case was a little unusual,β said Sheriff Barry Faile. βOur investigators are trained to expect the unexpected, and this time their instincts proved true. They removed several thousand dollars worth of dangerous drugs from circulation and made a big arrest in the Kershaw area.β
