Another tragic loss. We can’t honor him enough. Fish In Peace, Flip!

Flip Pallot: 1942-2025

There was always a distant horizon for him. Always a next adventure. It was ever this way, and so it remains. Now the task will be to hold the lessons close to heart, and stay the course he set, and navigate the way without our North Star.
The family and friends of Philip “Flip” Pallot are terribly saddened to share the news that Flip passed away on August 26, 2025, in Thomasville, Georgia, due to complications from surgery. This was unexpected and unmooring for us all.
Flip was a searing light that streaked across the sporting world for more than half a century, illuminating the possibilities of wild places and the pursuit of adventure, and leaving a comet’s tail of stories and insights and life lessons that will never dim. He was an inspiration to 18-year-olds and 80-year-olds. His passing leaves a gaping hole in our hearts, but one we will fill by living forward in the many ways we have been changed through his presence.
For now—“Heads up,” Flip would say, “and shoulders back, and don’t start your backcast until the line is straight and the fly is moving.” We are not there yet, and so Flip’s family--wife, Diane; daughter, Brooke; brother Scott; and granddaughter Sora--ask for privacy, and his friends ask that all who knew the man and love what he stands for take a quiet interlude and turn your eyes towards his beloved Florida. It is, at this moment, 7:50 p.m. EST. It is sunset in Mims, north of the Everglades, near the banks of the St. Johns River, where Flip and his wife, Diane, have lived for 23 years.
As for Flip, he asked for nothing other than a life lived fiercely true. To all those who share in our grief, in his own sweet words: “More to come. Bye for now.”

Our deepest condolences. Stay tuned for more. Flip, you were the coolest, thank you for being our friend.

“Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery.”

Stunning!!

The moment a trout eats a mayfly, fractions of a second before the surface tension is broken.

We had a great meeting speaker last night, Ed Hale. He is leading the way with research and monitoring the return of American Shad and other dianadromous species to the Christina/Brandywine watershed. His data and knowledge of the subject were first rate and the outlook for the future of these drainages is looking positive! Bottom line, remove or create viable passages for the return of these species and the energy they generate will help heal the watershed.
(My personal opinion is that any dam historical or otherwise that doesn’t provide a valuable service to the community should be removed. History can still be taught without showing an example of how we destroyed the environment by keeping a dam based on historical significance only, that provides no other value to our communities. Another innovative fisherman has headed for the glorious shores! RIP Bob Pops!!

A man of big stature who humbly served his country in the U.S. Marines Corps and eagerly shared his vast knowledge with others, Popovics was a larger-than-life fly angler.

Another groundbreaking fly fisher has headed for the big river. Tight lines good Sir!!!

We will never win or clean this river back up if municipalities and corporations keep getting away with poor management and infrastructure!

Attention everyone who uses the Susquehanna River, please see below.

Sunday, Sept 22, 2024:
Selinsgrove, Pa. — A large 20-inch sewage line rupture near the East Snyder County Sewage Treatment Facility on the south end of Selinsgrove in Snyder County is spilling raw sewage into the Penns Creek, lower Middle Creek and then flowing into the Susquehanna River just above the Hoover Island boat launch area.
The rupture was found early Sunday, Sept. 22 and as of 3 p.m., authorities are still unsure when the pipe, which moves an average of two million gallons of sewage a day from communities including Selinsgrove, Shamokin Dam and Penn Township, will be repaired.
Until things are fixed and the sewage impacts better evaluated, it is highly recommended everyone uses common sense and stays off Penns Creek and the river below Selinsgrove. There are plenty of places to fish and recreationally enjoy the river above this site.
For now, be smart and avoid contact with the water until we can get some sampling done and a better idea of what the bacterial concentrations are at various parts of the river and potential impacts will be.

Members of WCFF,

It is with great sadness that we share the news that the local fly fishing community has lost a mentor, supporter and most importantly, a friend. Terry Peach, former owner of A Marblehead FlyFisher, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening following a courageous battle with cancer. Even while he was sick, Terry was supporting the local fly fishing community including a local high school fly fishing group. Helping people of all kinds get started and progress in their fly fishing journey was Terry's passion.

Over the years, many club members spent time in Terry's fly fishing shop. He was giving of his knowledge, experience and time. In an age where everyone is pressed for time - that was a great gift from him. If you were lucky enough to bring one of your children or grandchildren to the shop or the fly tying classes - you would see Terry's eyes light up and the excitement he felt at having the opportunity to share the greatness of fly fishing to another generation.

Terry - Thank You. We will miss you.
Fish in peace, Terry 🙏🏻😔
