Alleged Container found with Co***ne in Nigeria left Sierra Leone Empty- SLPHA Director General
The Director General of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority, Yankuba Askia Bio during an engagement with the media and civil society organizations declared that the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority has no involvement in the alleged container found with co***ne in Nigeria.
“The Container (GCNU1332851) linked to Sierra Leone left the Freetown port empty and arrived in Lagos, Nigeria en route to Cotonou empty."
The engagement aimed to clarify misinformation regarding the Authority’s involvement in the alleged incident.
According to Mr. Bio, the shipping company, Grimaldi, which handled the container, has confirmed that it was discharged empty upon arrival at the Port of Lagos
He urged journalists and representatives of the civil society to refer to the press release issued by the Authority on November 14th, 2025.
In another development, he disclosed that the Authority is now ranked as the fastest-growing port in the world after recent assessments on Ports globally.
DG Bio furthered that the Port of Freetown has also been listed among the safest in the world, giving confidence to bigger vessels to sail at the Freetown Port.
He also reported on the increase in vessel traffic, the creation of 200 jobs for young people since he assumed office, and the increase in revenue generation.
