From Executive Editor Chris Azzopardi:

Pride Source’s Between The Lines, the longest-running LGBTQ+ print publication in Michigan, is thrilled to feature the cover art for our current issue by Bill Ferenc (), a Detroit illustrator, the art director at The Black Sheep Agency and one of the warmest creative presences in the city’s q***r arts scene.

I first got to know Bill through the Detroit Q***r Sketch Series (***r_sketch_series), where his eye for gesture and form — the way he finds life and personality in a single figure — was immediately apparent. He’s also the kind of artist who shows up for community in the most literal sense: If you’ve been to Drink & Draw at Dozer Coffee (), you’ve probably drawn alongside him. When it came time to find an artist for our biggest issue of the year, Bill felt like the obvious choice. He’s someone who already understood, in his bones, what it means to make art that brings people together.

And that instinct shows in this cover. At a time when q***r visibility is under sustained pressure and attacks from multiple angles, Bill responded to this year’s theme, “Hold the Line,” with an illustration that is joyful and defiant in equal measure — a crowd marching forward, arms linked, signs raised, each figure moving in their own way but nobody left behind. It draws from the visual history of protest and the specific iconography of q***r struggle, while still feeling unmistakably like home. Both the place and the feeling.

Check out our list of alternative Pride events including a drag history event, q***r crafting, PRISM with the DSO, Out Loud Chorus's big 3-0, Pride mini-golf at Cranbrook, baseball nights, a q***r cinema series and a "Xanadu" singalong on roller skates — Metro Detroit's June calendar offers way more than festivals (though you should definitely hit those up, too).
