Most people have no idea what happens after a hunter donates a deer in Michigan.

Here’s what actually happens:

A hunter donates their deer.

A local meat processor prepares and packages the venison.

Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger reimburses the processor using donated funds from supporters across Michigan.

The venison is then distributed through local food banks, pantries, and feeding programs to help families in need.

One donated deer can provide roughly 160–200 servings of high-quality protein.

That’s hunters helping families.
Local businesses supporting communities.
And Michigan conservation values making a real impact.

Still I wonder, "how many haven't been caught?"

Anglers caught with more than double legal limit of walleye from Detroit River - CBS Detroit

According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, each of the five anglers is allowed up to six walleye in the Detroit River (30 total among the group); however, conservation officers discovered that the group exceeded the limit by 34 walleye.
