Andy Schor Announces Formation of Congressional Exploratory Committee
Lansing Mayor to study run for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District

LANSING, MI – Today Andy Schor announced that he has taken the steps to form a Congressional Exploratory Committee as he begins the process of examining a run for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District. Schor, a Democrat, currently serves as Mayor of the City of Lansing. Under Schor’s leadership, the capital city has seen billions in economic development and job creation, significant funding to gun violence prevention, and new housing for all incomes throughout the city.

“I have heard from so many people from across mid-Michigan recently asking me to consider a run for Congress. After talking to my wife and kids, I have decided to take this initial step of forming an exploratory committee in order to raise the resources and build the kind of campaign required for a competitive congressional race," Schor stated. "I look forward to talking with people from across mid-Michigan on the needs of our communities and the best way our next Representative in Washington can help."

The 7th Congressional District is currently represented by Rep. Elissa Slotkin, who recently announced she was going to be running for the U.S. Senate. It is made up of Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Shiawassee, and Livingston counties, along with some portions of Oakland and Genesee Counties.

By opening this exploratory committee, Schor has taken the first steps to set up the structure for a possible campaign. This allows him to begin raising the early funds needed to study the seat, talk to voters, build initial campaign infrastructure, and set up the beginnings of a solid fundraising base. Once a final decision is made, the official congressional committee will use the money raised on the campaign.

“I believe that the 7th Congressional District needs a consensus-builder who can work across the aisle with both parties to get things done for Mid-Michigan. Job creation has been booming, unemployment is at its lowest level in 50 years, the bipartisan infrastructure act is helping communities across the nation, and manufacturing is being revitalized,” Schor continued. “I want to take a close, hard look at this seat to determine if I’m the right person that could win and keep getting results for mid-Michigan.”

Schor will now begin raising funds and talking to residents, as well as build the initial operational groundwork needed for a potential campaign launch. For more information, please visit

As you know, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin announced her campaign for U.S. Senate earlier this week. Congresswoman Slotkin is a true public servant who has delivered impactful bipartisan results for our region, and I am certain she will take that same drive to the Senate on behalf of all Michiganders...

Lansing Infrastructure Projects To Receive Millions From Federal Government

(LANSING) - Mayor Andy Schor today announced that Congress approved the federal omnibus spending bill which included several items that help the City of Lansing. The Mayor thanked Lansing’s congressional delegation for their strong support of the Capital City as they worked in DC to help their constituents.

Appropriations for the City of Lansing in the federal legislation include:
$6 million: Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) separation project that is ongoing. This investment continues our progress to prevent an estimated 1.65 billion gallons of raw sewage from entering the Grand River each year.
$1 million: Lansing Fire Department life-saving equipment needs.
$750,000: Investment in the future ‘Ovation’ live music and arts performance venue coming to downtown Lansing.

“Lansing is not only the Capital City, but also is a city with long-standing infrastructure needs. These federal funds will support Lansing by ensuring sewer and water separation in underground pipes, providing new and up-to-date EMS equipment, and adding needed funds for a new Ovation concert venue. Thanks go to US Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters, along with our amazing Congresswoman, Elissa Slotkin, for fighting for federal funding for our community,” stated Mayor Andy Schor.

The CSO Project allows the City of Lansing and its residents to have a positive, lasting impact on the water quality of the Grand and Red Cedar Rivers for many decades to come. The project also offers the City the opportunity to improve aging infrastructure such as roads, curbs, sewers, storm drains, water mains, natural gas lines and other utilities. By teaming with the Lansing Board of Water and Light, many old water mains and services are being replaced in conjunction with the sewer installation.

New life saving equipment for our firefighters and EMS personnel is critical for Lansing residents. This funding will help us update patient stretchers, heart monitors, patient transfer stair chairs, CPR devices and install power load systems in ambulances. This will give the Lansing Fire Department EMS providers the most up to date equipment to provide the highest level of patient care to citizens and visitors to the Lansing Area.

The Lansing Ovation will be a state-of-the-art live music and performing arts venue located in the heart of downtown Lansing. This new space will provide a much-needed performance venue and is expected to be used and active year-round with live music, comedy, plays, dance, films.

Local Wreaths Across America Event Planned for Noon, December 17th at Evergreen Cemetery (Little Arlington)
Volunteers help to Remember, Honor, Teach about our community’s heroes.

Lansing, MI — December 14, 2022 — Local Wreaths Across America volunteers are working hard to ensure that all veterans laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery are honored this December as part of National Wreaths Across America Day – Saturday, December 17, 2022. In preparation for this annual event, Little Arlington Project is holding a ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery at Noon to raise awareness and wreath sponsorships to honor every veteran at Little Arlington Veterans Memorial Plot.

“Every $15 wreath sponsorship made is a meaningful gift from a grateful American who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy,” said Karen Worcester, executive director of Wreaths Across America. “We are so grateful to the good people of this wonderful community for participating in our mission to Remember, Honor and Teach.”

Last year, ceremonies were held across the country at more than 3,100 participating locations, placing 2.4 million wreaths for interred veterans. This year Wreaths Across America Day will be held on December 17, 2022

The goal: to place a live, balsam fir veteran’s wreath at the headstone of every American veteran to Remember their sacrifice, Honor their service, and Teach the next generation about the value of freedom. Lansing to Offer Free On-Street Metered Parking For The Holidays
Free Parking Friday Promotion Also Extended Through March

LANSING, MI – Mayor Andy Schor today announced that on-street metered parking in the City of Lansing will be free of charge beginning Monday, December 12, 2022, until Monday, January 2, 2023. Metered parking includes parking meters, kiosks, and smart phone app payments, and maximum time limits and safety violations will continue to be enforced.

“The City of Lansing will once again this year offer free on-street metered parking to encourage residents and visitors to shop and eat locally during the holiday season in downtown and Old Town. Offering complimentary parking is one way that we can help support these small businesses during this critical time of the year. This will just make it easier for residents and visitors to stop into their favorite business downtown and have one less thing to worry about,” said Mayor Schor.

“The gift of Free Parking downtown offers a huge benefit for those doing their last-minute shopping, getting together with friends, family, or coworkers, while allowing more people to Lift Up our Local businesses for the remainder of the holiday shopping season! We encourage everyone to head downtown to Shop, Dine, and Support Downtown Lansing businesses,” stated Cathleen Edgerly, Executive Director of Downtown Lansing, Inc.

In addition to the free holiday parking, Mayor Schor has also extended the ‘Free Parking Friday’ promotion through March 31, 2023. This allows people visiting downtown and Old Town to park in metered spots for free on Fridays until the spring.

On-street parking maximum times will continue to be monitored and ticketed throughout both parking promotions. Visitors should look at the signage near where they park for that area’s maximum allowed time. All other parking infractions, outside of on-street metered parking, will also continue to be enforced.
