The Village of Lansing Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is seeking new firefighter/paramedics.

The next fire test is scheduled for Jan. 31, 2026. Applications are due by Jan. 14, 2026. The full job posting and application are available online at:

There are three ways to qualify to take the test to become a Lansing firefighter: Applicants can already be licensed paramedics; applicants can be entry-level firefighter/paramedics with valid Candidate Physical Ability Tests (CPAT) within the past year or Cops and Fire Physical Agility Tests; or candidates can have full-time experience.

There is no residency requirement for firefighter/paramedics in the Village of Lansing.

“The Lansing Fire Department is looking to hire multiple individuals whose focus is serving the community through the provision of fire and emergency medical services,” said Fire Chief Chad Kooyenga. “If you have a passion for helping others, join our fire department.

This past Wednesday December 3rd, 2025, Fox Pointe held Lansing's annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The community kicked off the holiday season by meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus, drinking hot cocoa, eating popcorn, and watching the beautiful trees be lit up by Mayor Brian Hardy.

The trees will be on display Wednesdays through Sundays 3PM-8PM until December 23rd at Fox Pointe.

The Village of Lansing announces its Adopt-a-Family program, in partnership with School District 158!

🎁 Calling all businesses, organizations, churches, and families:

Let’s come together as a Village to make this season a little brighter for our neighbors. By sponsoring a Lansing family, you’ll help fulfill a child’s holiday wish list — and make a meaningful difference close to home.

All families are identified through the schools and remain completely anonymous. Parents create a wish/needs list for their children, and your generosity helps ensure every child has something special to look forward to.

How it Works

Select a family — Visit the Lansing Municipal Center (3141 Ridge Rd.) Monday–Friday,
7 a.m.–5 p.m. to choose a family to support.

Shop — Purchase gifts from the family’s wish list.

Drop off — Bring the unwrapped gifts back to the Municipal Center by 5 p.m. Dec. 8.

Wrap & Deliver — Village employees will wrap the gifts and deliver them to schools for families to pick up.

✨ Since this is the first time we’ve done something like this, we’re especially excited to see how our community comes together to make it a success. Let’s show what the spirit of Lansing is all about — caring, compassion, and community.

On November 4th, owner Nicole Makowski cut the ribbon to celebrate the soon-to-open Makowski Real Sausage facility right here in Lansing, IL. Village officials and guests joined the celebration, toured the new facility, and enjoyed samples of Makowski’s signature sausages.

The Lansing Veterans Memorial Ceremonial Honor Guard will commemorate Veterans Day with a special ceremony to honor all who have served on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Lansing Veterans Memorial. This event is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend and pay tribute to our nation’s veterans.

The Lansing Veterans Memorial is located at the corner of Burnham Avenue and Glenwood-Lansing Road—just steps from the Historic Ford Hangar.

*The event will be moved inside the Historic Ford Hangar if necessary.
