WLNS Jim Geyer Meteorologist, SKYWARN Spotter, Coaster Correspondent, Sports Fan, Scuba Diver.
(23)

I’m back at WLNS after working for four years in the Flint/Saginaw TV market. I was here previously from 1990 to 2004 and was part of the first news team to start a morning newscast on WLNS. I have over 30 years of experience forecasting weather in Michigan. I started in radio, providing weathercasts during the night for WJR-AM in Detroit for 13 years. The remainder of my work has been primarily in television. I am a licensed Ham Radio operator and will occasionally storm-chase and report severe weather as a SKYWARN Spotter. I’ve been married to my wife Jane for over 25 years. We love to travel and are both certified scuba divers. Some of our travels have taken us to the Aruba, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Saba, St. Lucia, The Bahamas, Mexico, Hawaii and Tahiti, just to name a few places. We are also avid roller coaster enthusiasts and always make it a point to visit Cedar Point at least once a year. We have a dog, Stormy, who is our third cocker spaniel that we’ve adopted. We are also volunteers with Habitat for Humanity.

Two swaths of snow in less than a week. Over a foot of snow fell in the western and central counties in the U.P. Clouds over southern Lower Michigan are covering the snowfall now, but it's there. And then there's number three that could move across the same counties over Lower Michigan this Friday.

The Storm Prediction Center increased the possibility of severe weather into the ENHANCED category - an area of greater severe storm coverage with numerous storms possible. Storms will develop to our northwest and then move to the southeast. Timing of the storms right now have them moving into the Lansing area after 8 p.m. and Jackson less then two hours later. Make sure your NOAA Weather Radio is working, too.

Friday will be our first "Feel Good Friday" on our 5:30pm newscast. If you were outside, enjoying the sunshine and mild weather, it was a good day. If you have pictures of flowers blooming or your garden getting prepared for this year, please post them to our WLNS page (that way all of us will see them) and we'll post some of them on the air. Here's a picture posted from my brother.

I thought I heard rain on the roof of the studio. And not just sprinkles. Yep, it's raining. Temperatures will stay above freezing until early this evening. Then, the winds will increase, the temperature will drop below freezing, and we'll see a changeover to snow showers. How are you doing on your snow shoveling? We still have a few hours above freezing to finish.

It's going to be a windy Wednesday in mid-Michigan with sustained winds in the 25-35mph range and gusts 45mph or higher. To be on the safe side, make sure you have gas in the generator if you're in an area that's prone to power outages.

Last week I had the pleasure of speaking to the Central Michigan Amateur Radio Club. I told them that they had me speak a week early, since the winter outlook from the Climate Prediction Center wasn't going to be released until today. So, I told them what I thought was going to happen - more snow and near-normal temperatures. Well, well, well. Look what their outlook is showing. Did somebody bug the microphone? 🤔

We're not done with the rain but we "may" be done with severe weather. The radar shows severe thunderstorms in SE MI now. Also, this is from the Storm Prediction Center a short while ago: Ongoing convection in Lower MI has weakened slowly the past couple of hours. Some strengthening is possible early this afternoon along the leading edge of the outflow into eastern Lower MI as the low levels destabilize with surface heating, though confidence is not particularly high.

Sorry about that last Facebook Live. I had it set for wide view and, for some reason, it decided to do it IT'S own way. So, the Cliffs Notes version: Habitat for Humanity Clinton-Gratiot had their annual Bike-To-Build today, about 100 riders, and with beautiful weather. My wife rode a portion of the ride, which is good considering it was her first long bike ride.

Why are you out driving on the bad roads? It is not necessary to sensationalize your DISTRACTED driving in bad weather. Yes distracted you are talking to a camera man instead of driving safely, then your news room ppl tell the public to stay home stay off the roads you could die . Setting an example might be a better way to do your job . You can show viewers the roads by walking out the studio door . Wake up set a GOOD example , you don’t need to be driving you did this last week also. Do you really want to be the next trauma activation at the hospital
