Whitmer to increase disposal fees by 1300%, yes, One thousand, three hundred percent.

Whitmer tries to deter Canadian trash with big hike in Michigan landfill fees. An increase from .35 per ton to $5 per ton.

If you want to keep the trash out of Michigan, why not just charge out-of-state dumpers more? Why charge michiganders more too.

All trash is logged and the state knows where it comes from. Very easy to implement an out-of-state tax for trash entering Michigan.

Taxing residents to death is not the answer. This is a money grab. If they really wanted to reduce Canada's trash, they can charge Canada not us residents.

A proposed increase to $5 per-ton would reimburse landfill host communities and raise money for pollution cleanups.
