Living full time in a Rv has had its perks, and we've loved every single second of it. While we knew there would be disadvantages to this lifestyle, we hadn't ran into any major challenges....until this past month. Our intentions have always been to winter in warmer weather, and come back to Michigan (our home state) to visit our family and friends when it's warm. Avoiding snow and cold has been our #1 goal. However, sometimes life just throws you a curve ball, you have to figure things out, and take a detour on your plans. My son had to have a pretty serious brain surgery this month, so obviously Michigan is where we wanted to be. We dropped our trailer off down south to keep our solar batteries safe from the bitter cold, and we returned to Michigan a few weeks ago in the van. We do have heat, but not the kind of heat that is going to be comfortable or inexpensive for Michigan winters. So that has made this past month challenge. Roland has done amazing keeping the van on pure ice roads (photo below), and doing all the things to keep us warm. One of our favorite things about full-time nomad living is that we can just pull in someone's back yard and stay and help if they need us. But silly us, I guess we had never thought about the fact that sometimes we are needed in the winter, in Michigan, in negative 2 degree weather. It's been challenging for sure. Half of our things are in another state, my knees hate the cold, and so do I. I just keep playing the song "riding the storm out" on repeat in my head over and over. The storm being more than the weather obviously. We are so grateful that my son is healing and that we have had a lot of extra time with family and friends this Christmas. Eventually we will make our way to AZ, and my son and his wife hope to visit us there after he heals. Sometimes life is hard, but I am so thankful for so many things, and so many people in our lives. We are blessed. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.
