Next semester, every UW student, teacher, and faculty member will have access to a new AI platform: Boodlebox: part of President Shane Reeves' plan to bring AI into the classroom.

We hit the ground to ask students what they think. Some see it as a valuable tool. Others aren't so sure. But on one thing, they all agreed: it's on the person using AI to make sure it's used thoughtfully and correctly.

This week on WyoWire we cover: AI in the classroom, flu season prep, and sports.

AI on campus: Students are speaking out as UW moves toward implementing AI more widely, and opinions are split.

Joshua Ejeka sees the upside: "I think it's there to improve efficiency if we use it the right way."

But not everyone agrees.

Cassandra Perez said: "I think it has been linked to critical analysis and studies that just show that the use of AI has very much started degrading the mental capacity of students and really impacted critical thinking."

The common thread from students? It comes down to responsibility: how AI gets used matters just as much as whether it's used at all.

Flu season: Student Health Services is hosting Flu Shot clinics from September 15th to October 15th Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. Those with student health insurance can get the shot for free, while those with private or no insurance can get the shot for $29.

"Is college still worth it in the age of AI?"

That's the question UW's new President Shane Reeves tackled head-on in his first State of the University address.

His take, per anchor Ava Schifferens: "While knowledge may be cheap, Reeves still believes in the value of higher education."

Reeves isn't shying away from AI, instead he's making it a priority, pushing UW to adapt to the changing landscape rather than resist it.

As he said, "Those who use AI are going to replace those who don't use AI."

He also laid out 5 goals for the 2026-27 school year:
1- Student experience
2- Setting students up for success
3- Unleashing innovation
4- Developing athletic programs
5- Students, staff, and faculty telling UW's story

5 a.m. on 9/11. Before most of campus was even awake, UW Army ROTC, local firefighters and community members were already climbing.
They teamed up for a stair climb honoring the firefighters and first responders who never made it home.

LTC Paul Scifers of the U.W. Army ROTC emphasized: "Our own physical suffering allows us to reflect upon their sacrifice and the loss of life."

Lieutenant Owen Kuemmerle of the Albany County Fire District shared why the memorial's photos matter to him: "Pictures of the faces, to me, means more. It personalizes it people before me did this job, and people after me will do this job. It's my time to carry that torch while I'm here."

This week on WyoWire: we’re honoring the fallen. U.W. ROTC and local firefighters took on the 9/11 stair climb. 2,200 steps, each symbolizing the 110 floors firefighters climbed in the Twin Towers. University President Shane Reeves delivered his first State of the University Address, laying out five goals for the year ahead: student experience, graduate success, innovation, pride for U.W., and connection and engagement within the U.W. community in sharing our story. He also addressed the big question: Is college still worth it in the age of A.I.? Charlie Coles breaks down WyoWire Sports, recapping the highs and lows from last weekends Border War, and highlighting upcoming home game against UNC, kickoff at 2 PM. Watch the full video below!!
