We want to address the recent news regarding Freedom Ranch Laredo. While our group has shared some of their posts in the past including posts that contained links for donations; this was done solely in the spirit of helping animals find safety and/or vet care. We are not affiliated with Freedom Ranch Laredo in any way, and we have never collected or handled donations for them.

Our mission has always been to help animals in need through volunteer-based efforts, case by case donations and sometimes that has meant sharing posts from other organizations when we believed it could help an animal. The news of severe neglect and the tragic loss of life connected to Freedom Ranch Laredo is devastating.

Thank you to our community for your compassion and commitment to protecting animals. ♥️🐾

Why does your dog bark at other dogs on walks? 🤔🐶
It’s not always aggression often it’s frustration, fear, or lack of proper socialization.
Dogs who haven’t had enough positive experiences around other dogs might bark, lunge, or act out on a leash.

🦴 It doesn’t mean they’re “bad dogs.”
It means they might need more structured socialization and positive training to build confidence and learn how to stay calm around others.

If this sounds like your pup, you’re not alone and it can get better with time and consistency.

💡 Best practice?
Use a harness for walks, and keep a regular collar on for ID tags and home use.

Fireworks & Furry Friends: A Crucial 4th of July Reminder 🎆🐶

Heads up, pet parents! With the 4th of July just around the corner, it's time to talk about fireworks. While they're a dazzling display for us, the loud bangs and bright flashes can be incredibly terrifying and disorienting for our beloved dogs. This often leads to them fleeing in panic, increasing the risk of getting lost or having an accident.
To ensure a safe and stress-free holiday for every paw in our community, please make it a top priority to keep your dogs securely indoors during fireworks displays. Even if your dog has never shown fear before, the intensity of the noise can be overwhelming.

Tips for a Calm & Safe Holiday:
* Create a Safe Zone: Set up a cozy, quiet space (like a crate covered with a blanket, or a small room) where your dog can retreat.

* Drown Out Noise: Use a fan, turn on the TV/radio, or play calming music to help muffle the sounds from outside.

* Update ID: Double-check that your dog's collar has up-to-date ID tags and that their microchip information is current, just in case.

* Exercise Early: Give your dog a good walk or playtime before fireworks typically start to help them feel more tired and relaxed.

Let's work together to make this 4th of July safe and happy for all our furry family members. Your vigilance can prevent a heartbreaking situation!

So far this year, PLP has been able to secure medical treatment for four cats that have suffered from injuries and illnesses. Although we cannot guarantee the recovery of every animal and extended periods of veterinary care do not always yield positive outcomes, I know that Dra Luna strives to provide the highest level of care possible. THANK YOU DRA LUNA 💚🐾

August is National Immunization Awareness Month! Just like us, it’s important for our pets to stay on top of their vaccines and immunizations.

Giving your pets their regular vaccinations is the key to a long and healthy life. Regardless of whether you keep your dog inside or not, vaccines are essential in ensuring your pet’s health.

Many contagious diseases can be airborne, meaning your pet could contract a disease through an open window. Pets are also prone to slipping out of the house on occasion, which could lead to risk of disease.

Additionally, places you may frequently visit such as boarding kennels, dog parks and grooming salons are high-risk environments.

Making sure your pet is vaccinated before visiting such places can give you peace of mind. Remember that vaccinations can take a few days to a few weeks before becoming effective – check with your vet before taking your recently vaccinated pet to any of these places!
