Government Reopens After 43 Days: What the New Deal Means for You

The longest government shutdown in U.S. history has officially come to an end. After 43 days without a deal, President Donald Trump has signed a bipartisan funding bill to reopen federal agencies and restore pay for more than 800,000 federal workers.

Federal programs are restarting, SNAP benefits are expected to resume within 24 hours, and back pay could reach workers in the coming days. But not everyone is celebrating — Maryland Governor Wes Moore warns the new funding bill could raise healthcare premiums and leave Maryland families paying the price.

Air travel delays are still ongoing, with the FAA saying flight reductions may continue for weeks as air traffic controllers return to full staffing.

CTV News breaks down what this deal means for federal employees, Marylanders, and the nation as agencies begin the slow return to normal operations.

Stay with CTV News for continuing coverage as the government reopens and the effects of the shutdown unfold.
