Maryland's $70B pension fund quietly shed $62M in Israeli bonds — but there's no law stopping them from buying more. Inside the campaign fighting to make it permanent

A Maryland activist coalition says the state pension system cut $62 million in Israeli bond holdings after a year of union organizing and legislative pressure. The Beauty World Is Furious: Patrick Ta’s “Transition Blush” Belongs to Painted by Esther

Who Is Painted by Esther? Ngozi "Esther" Edeme, known professionally as Painted by Esther, is a UK-based celebrity makeup artist whose client list reads like a cultural almanac: Naomi Campbell, Kelly Rowland, Viola Davis, Tyla, Anok Yai, and breakout reality star Olandria Carthen from Love Island. The Boss just made history at Nationals Park.
During his Wednesday night performance (May 27), Bruce Springsteen took the stage and called out President Trump directly—labeling him "racist, incompetent, and treasonous" before launching into a cover of Edwin Starr's "War."

Springsteen then urged fans to "advocate for the America we love" as part of his 20-date protest tour, Land of Hope and Dreams. The 76-year-old rock legend also announced a star-studded protest festival for October in Maryland, featuring Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Brittany Howard, and Joan Baez.

Local news keeps neighborhoods informed — but it’s struggling to survive while our politicians and their political campaigns spend big with billionaire-owned platforms. If candidates care about community, their ad budgets should support local, independent, and BIPOC media too.

Political campaigns spend billions on ads while local and independent media struggles to survive. “60 Minutes” correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi is reportedly out at CBS following months of internal tension over editorial decisions and newsroom independence.

The conflict began after a segment Alfonsi reported on Venezuelan migrants sent to El Salvador’s CECOT prison was pulled in December. CBS News leadership said the piece was not ready. Alfonsi pushed back internally, accusing management of deferring to political pressure — a dispute that later became public. The report ultimately aired weeks later with minimal changes.
Despite continuing to file reports in the months that followed, Alfonsi says CBS stopped communicating with her team and allowed her contract to lapse.

The situation is raising broader concerns inside “60 Minutes,” long regarded as one of the most editorially independent programs in network television. Staff departures and internal criticism point to growing unease over whether corporate priorities and political considerations are influencing editorial decisions.

CBS leadership says the changes are part of an effort to modernize the program’s format and adapt to evolving audience habits.

Washington spent decades pointing fingers at African strongmen — lecturing the world about corruption, state capture, and the dangers of unchecked executive power. Now Trump's IRS settlement and a $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded Anti-Weaponization Fund are raising those same uncomfortable questions at home. LaBode Obanor draws a chilling line from Mobutu's Zaire to modern Washington — and the parallels are impossible to ignore. When institutions stop serving the people and start protecting the powerful, democracy doesn't collapse overnight. It quietly decays. The republic is being tested.
