ÚLTIMA HORA: Los neomexicanos recibirán el 100% de la totalidad de los beneficios SNAP de noviembre y la sesión especial sigue adelante el lunes, según un comunicado de la oficina de la gobernadora emitido el sábado por la mañana.
La gobernadora Michelle Lujan Grisham dijo que el estado cargó los beneficios federales de alimentos del programa SNAP en las tarjetas EBT de los neomexicanos elegibles, luego de una orden inicial de un tribunal federal de Rhode Island y la subsiguiente orientación del USDA (Departamento de Agricultura de EE. UU.). Los neomexicanos elegibles verán los beneficios de alimentos en sus tarjetas EBT en su fecha de emisión regular, dijo la gobernadora. Si bien la Corte Suprema suspendió esa orden más tarde, las familias de Nuevo México ya tenían acceso completo al 100% de la totalidad de sus beneficios de noviembre.
"Ayer, después de recibir la orientación del USDA, Nuevo México envió la totalidad de los beneficios SNAP de noviembre a todos los neomexicanos elegibles", dijo la gobernadora Michelle Lujan Grisham. "No nos quedaremos de brazos cruzados mientras el Presidente trabaja para negar alimentos a niños, familias y personas mayores que tienen hambre".
La gobernadora sigue convocando a los legisladores estatales de regreso a Santa Fe el lunes para la segunda sesión especial del año. El objetivo, dijo Lujan Grisham, es aprobar fondos estatales para el SNAP.
El 1 de noviembre, la gobernadora emitió $30 millones en fondos estatales para cubrir parcialmente los beneficios federales del SNAP hasta el 10 de noviembre. La gobernadora dijo que eso cubriría alrededor del 30% de los beneficios, o el valor de 10 días.
"No podemos dejar a los neomexicanos a merced de la disfunción federal", dijo Lujan Grisham. "Esta sesión especial nos dará las herramientas para alimentar a las familias si los republicanos en el Congreso les fallan de nuevo. No vamos a esperar a ver qué pasa".
El vicegobernador Howie Morales fungirá como gobernador interino durante la sesión especial mientras Lujan Grisham asiste a la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático en Brasil.

This is a great news ! JUST IN: New Mexicans will receive 100% full November SNAP benefits and the special session is still moving forward Monday, according to a release from the governor’s office Saturday morning.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said the state loaded federal SNAP food benefits to eligible New Mexicans’ EBT cards following an initial Rhode Island federal court order and subsequent guidance from the USDA. Eligible New Mexicans will see food benefits on their EBT cards on their regular issuance date, the governor said. While the Supreme Court later stayed that order, New Mexico families already had full access to 100% of their full November benefits.
"Yesterday, after receiving guidance from the USDA, New Mexico sent full November SNAP benefits to all eligible New Mexicans," Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said. "We won’t stand by while the President works to deny food to hungry children, families and seniors.”
The governor is still calling state lawmakers back to Santa Fe Monday for the second special session of the year. The goal, Lujan Grisham said, is to approve state funds for SNAP.
On Nov. 1, the governor issued $30 million in state-funds to partially cover federal SNAP benefits until Nov. 10. The governor said that would cover about 30% of benefits or 10 days worth.
“We cannot leave New Mexicans at the mercy of federal dysfunction,” Lujan Grisham said. “This special session will give us the tools to feed families if Republicans in Congress fail them again. We're not waiting around to find out."
Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales will serve as acting governor during the special session while Lujan Grisham attends the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Brazil.
