In fall 2024, UNLV alumnus Phillip Haynes III returned to serve as the Director of Student-Athlete Development! Since then, he has supported the Empower Her program and reached out to different campus departments to get the resources his students need.

"It makes it a lot easier to care about them," Haynes said about how his experience as a former Rebel player helped him connect to his students, "because they are who I was."

Before UNLV, Haynes was with Rice University and Clemson University, which helped him shape his passion for student-athlete development.

UNLV and Let's Talk UNLV are here to support the mental health and well-being of our diverse campus community through a variety of services — from counseling to mindfulness practices like yoga and meditation.

Led by faculty like Dr. Chia-Liang “Leo” Dai, who joined us for Episode 118 of Let's Talk, wellness-centered courses and campus events are helping students and staff reconnect with themselves through intentional breathwork, movement, and reflection. These practices are designed to support whole-person health — mentally, emotionally, and physically.

UNLV Student Counseling and Psychological Services - CAPS offers free counseling and psychological services to all students, while additional resources like Togetherall, You@UNLV, and the FAST Center provide confidential, inclusive support for faculty and staff as well. Trauma-informed yoga sessions, peer communities, and wellness apps are all part of a growing network of care.

No matter what you're facing — you are not alone. UNLV is here for you. ❤️

Here from Dr. Dai at https://letstalkunlv.transistor.fm/118 and stay tuned for episodes focusing on mental health and wellness.
