Rick Berman had someone else in mind to play Seven of Nine on Star Trek: Voyager

According to the oral history book "The Fifty-Year Mission: The Next 25 Years: From The Next Generation to J. J. Abrams," by Mark A. Altman and Edward Gross [via Slashfilm], Berman wanted Susan Gibney to take on the role as he wanted the character to be more cerebral much like the one she played on "Star Trek: The Next Generation", Dr. Leah Brahms.

Berman admitted that Ryan wasn't his first choice, and he was overruled by Jeri Taylor and Michael Piller whose first choice was Ryan. He still maintained that Gibney would have been a great 'Seven of Nine'. Viewers would have immediately recognized her as Dr. Brahms, though, and that could have worked against her and the character.

Gibney had played a different character on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", Erika Benteen after 'The Next Generation' ended and recently returned to "Star Trek: Lower Decks" to voice Dr. Brahms again. She was also on the short-list for the role of Captain Kathryn Janeway [Kate Mulgrew] before ultimately being passed over because of her youthful appearance 🖖🖤⭐

Celebrating Patricia “Pat” Tallman – The Unsung Heroine of the Final Frontier ✨🖖

Today we salute the 67 years of fierce talent, fearless stunt work, and sci-fi legend that is Patricia J. Tallman.
You may recognize her face from Babylon 5 (telepath Lyta Alexander) or Night of the Living Dead (1990), but Trekkies know she’s the woman behind dozens of Starfleet, Bajoran, Romulan—and even Klingon—faces. Here’s why Pat deserves a standing ovation on every timeline:

🌟 1. The Stuntwoman Who Became Core to Trek
First beamed aboard TNG in 1991’s “Power Play”—and never stopped.

Doubled the leading ladies: Dr. Crusher, Kira Nerys, Jadzia Dax (and many guest stars).

Part of the tight-knit stunt team that kept the Enterprise-D, DS9, and Voyager action believable (and safe).

🎭 2. No Credit? No Problem.
Pat often worked under layers of foam latex or wig work, her name missing from the on-screen crawl. Yet her falls, flips, and phaser hits shaped the pulse of ‘90s Trek.

🗡️ 3. Warrior Spirit, Real Bruises
“Battle Lines” scar on her ribs. A full-force punch from Tim Russ in “Invasive Procedures.” A Klingon bird-of-prey smack-down while pregnant during Generations. Pat’s memoir Pleasure Thresholds details it all with humor (“I looked like Liza Minnelli with jaundice” as a Romulan!).

🚀 4. Cross-Galaxy Résumé
One day filming Babylon 5, the next doubling Terry Farrell on DS9. From Joan Cusack in Addams Family Values to Sarah Silverman on Voyager’s “Future’s End.” That’s range—and warp speed scheduling.

💬 5. Mentor, Coordinator & Trailblazer
Not just taking hits—choreographing them. Pat coached fellow actors, pioneered femme-forward stunt work, and made sure doubles got camera time (shout-out to Nana Visitor for always having Pat’s back).

✍️ Pat Today
Still empowering fans: convention panels, podcasts (A Captain’s Log, 2022), and motivational work through Quest Retreats. Her mantra? “Be the hero of your own story.”

Being an electronics and computer guy, this scene from The City On The Edge of Forever always tickled me. Spock’s mnemonic memory circuit using 1930s vacuum tube technology or stone knives and bearskins as he put it..😆… There’s no way this simple vacuum tube circuit would even come close to what’s needed. Even by 1970s computer chip LSI standards would require a 1930s vacuum tube equivalent circuit so large that it would require thousands of square feet of space and it’s own mini power plant to operate..😆.. It’s still my favorite episode and all time top of the list with Trek fans…
Addendum: I didn’t post this looking for an explanation or to discredit Spock’s abilities or TOS in general..😆… No need for anyone to get their feathers ruffled.. I’m probably a bigger Trek TOS fan than most..We all have an imagination and can fill in the blanks… That was the beauty of TOS. It was presented in a way where you could think “ this is possible “🖖🖤⭐

When I finished one of my photo ops in Ottawa, Nathan Fillion was doing one of his in the photo area next to mine. Anne was with me, and I know that she loves him as much as I do, so I grabbed her hand and ran with her into Nathan’s line.

I walked over to Nathan, and said to him, so Anne couldn’t hear, “Would you literally sweep her off her feet?” He laughed and said he would. Then he turned to me and said, “And you stand here, and look sad.”

So I did and this happened:

So John Barrowman is really, really awesome. Anne and I got to spend a bit of time with him in Phoenix at the comic con, and he was simply wonderful.

At one point, Anne showed him the picture of her and me with Nathan Fillion, and told him the story from Ottawa Comic Con.

“We should do that, only I’ll hold you and Anne will look sad,” John said.

I made a noise like a tween meeting Bieber, and then this happened:🖖🖤⭐
