Apple finally made an iPhone that folds, and after going hands-on with the iPhone Duo at Apple Park, I want more time with it. Opening it gives you a whole new way to use an iPhone, from working in two apps side by side to setting it down and getting into the group photo yourself. It’s the most interesting iPhone experience I’ve tried in years.

The 7.6-inch inner display gives those everyday interactions room to breathe. I walk through multitasking, saved app pairs, and a clever Keynote demo that puts your presentation above the fold and your speaker notes below it. Even opening and closing the phone has a thoughtful software touch, with what you’re doing carrying between the screens.

Then there’s the crease. If you’ve watched footage and wondered why someone says they can barely see it while you can clearly spot it, I explain what’s happening. The nano-texture display helps reduce reflections, and seeing it through a camera can feel surprisingly different from looking at it in your hands.

The new shape also changes how you take photos. Smart Take lets the phone stand on its own and capture the group as everyone poses, while Duo Preview lets you frame a selfie with the rear camera. But that $1,999 starting price comes with some real decisions: fewer Pro camera tools, Touch ID replacing Face ID, and Apple’s battery ratings changing significantly depending on which screen you use.

These are my iPhone Duo hands-on impressions, covering the experience, design, cameras, performance, battery claims, pricing, and release timing. I still want to test the cameras, live with the battery, and see how developers adapt their apps before making a buying recommendation. For now, this thing is really fun, and I’m curious what you’d do with that bigger screen.

http://www.gearlive.com - We bring you a first look at the Liquid Image Apex HD+ Wi-Fi snowboarding goggles from CES 2013. The Apex HD+ goggles have a built-in high definition video camera that can live stream to your iOS or Android phone or tablet, and can also record at 1080p 30fps or 720p 60fps, so you can show off you videos later. In addition, the Apex HD+ WiFi can also shoot still images. The camera itself is tilt-able within 30 degrees, so you can get a great angle regardless of your stance or activity. Definite an interesting product from the folks at Liquid Image - and we give you a look at how it all works in this episode.

http://gear.lv/UrfYkU - We got a look at the Canopy Sensus Touch Case at CES 2013, and walked away impressed. The Sensus Touch Case gives iPhone users 10-point touch input along the back and sides of the device, which means you can do things like play games by swiping along the back of the iPhone, leaving the display free and clear of your fingers. You can also do things like snap images by tapping the side of the phone, or zoom in and out of objects with a slide of your finger. Expect to see the case launch later this summer, priced somewhere between $59 and $99. More: http://www.gearlive.com/news/article/canopy-sensus-touch-case-iphone-q113/
