OPD5 board approves budget, station power contracts

The Overton Power District #5 (OPD5) Board of Trustees approved an expense budget for the coming 2026 year during a meeting held in Mesquite on Wednesday, Dec. 10. In addition, the board approved a small cluster of contract agreements that bring the station power needs of two large solar power producers, both of which have been operating for some time within the OPD5 territory, into the district’s rate-paying customer base....

MVWD board approves rate increase

The Moapa Valley Water District Board of Directors approved an eight percent water rate increase during a meeting held on December 5. The increase will take effect on January 1, 2026. It was not the first time that this item had been before the board. Board members have discussed it extensively in several public meetings over the past year. The action was actually part of a larger strategy, put in motion over the past two years, to keep the district in step with increasing operational costs and to fund a number of major capital projects that are needed in the MVWD system....

OPD5 apprentice crew advances to next step

A trio of apprentices from the Overton Power District #5 (OPD5) line crew completed the next stage in their path of becoming electrical linemen last week. All three passed a complex series of annual examinations at a lineman training testing facility in St. George, Utah on December 3-4. Sister Marian Leavitt has served her mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She will return home from the Washington DC South Mission Thursday December 18, 2025.
