Save Blue Bloods! CBS Hints at a Spinoff for the Beloved Drama
The Reagan family’s story may not be over just yet!
After CBS announced Blue Bloods would end after 14 seasons, Paramount Global co-CEO Brian Robbins gave fans a glimmer of hope. During a shareholder meeting on June 4, he revealed plans for new franchise expansions, including one for Blue Bloods.
"In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods," Robbins shared, sparking excitement among longtime viewers.
Could Blue Bloods Return?
The series, which premiered in 2010, became a Friday night staple, following NYC Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and his family’s legacy within the NYPD. CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios president David Stapf acknowledged the show’s impact in a joint statement, calling it "a beloved part of CBS’ legacy."
Despite the cancellation, Selleck remains hopeful. In a May interview, he pushed back against the network’s decision, saying, "We’re the third highest-rated scripted show on broadcast. We’re winning the night. The entire cast wants to come back. CBS needs to come to its senses."
A Bittersweet Farewell—For Now
The final season of Blue Bloods has been split into two parts, with the last eight episodes set to air in fall 2024.
