We may be RVers… but we’re also neighbors. ❤️
We moved into this RV park at the end of March, and even with our normal 3 weeks in/1 week out, we’ve somehow have had the same neighbors basically since day one.
After almost 5 months, they are not just “the guys next door” anymore. They are our friends.
One neighbor in particular is older, lives on Social Security, and his rig has definitely seen better days. We’ve helped him with his water, electric and AC more than once. Just normal neighbor stuff.
Today while the kids were doing their schoolwork, I heard the TINIEST little rhythmic knock on our door. So light Odin didn’t even notice. 😂
I looked through our dark tinted windows and there he was.
The second I opened the door he started apologizing. His old 30-amp cord had burned up at the pedestal, leaving his whole camper without power. He asked if we had a regular 3-prong extension cord so he could at least plug in his refrigerator.
I dug one out, handed it over and made sure his fridge came back on. ❤️
Unfortunately, we have a 50-amp camper, so we don’t have a spare 30-amp cord we can lend him to actually power his rig. But now I can’t stop worrying about him. He has no power and won’t have power until he can get a new 30amp cable.
Our week out is coming up, and he plans to just boondock somewhere in Las Vegas… with NO POWER, in THIS heat and cut back on groceries to try to save enough money to replace his 30-amp cord. Which he said could take him a couple of months….
We chose RV life.
Some people don’t.
Sometimes life just deals you a hand and you figure out how to survive with what you’ve got.
We never planned to be “stationary” this long either. We haven’t really traveled more than a 40 mile radius in almost 16 months. But maybe one good thing to come from it has been getting to know the people around us and finding that sense of community again.
Now we can’t fix EVERY problem for our neighbors and they can’t fix ours, But we can try by helping out by lending a cord, helping out when something breaks and making sure they know that tiny knock on our door is NEVER a bother.
And until one of us rolls out of here for good, we’re going to keep looking out for each other.
❤️
