Michigan-based musician Fred Thomas may have reached the most listeners with the melancholic indie pop of his group Saturday Looks Good To Me, but for those that venture deeper into Thomas’ body of work than those sunny, lovestruck songs, his ongoing love of electronics will be no surprise.

Dream Erosion is a sporadic series of Thomas’ synthesizer compositions that’s so discrete it feels like a secret. Mystery Circles is proud to present Dream Erosion Pt. VII, a collection of ten more of Thomas’ placid, intentionally spare electronic compositions. Opening with an avant-drone of driving synthesizers, we move between Ann Arbor experimental roots and Detroit pop know-how. Thomas proves his knack for subtle hooks and unexpected key changes, shaping each track with just the right reverb and arpeggiated phrasing. It’s minimalist, but never static. The album exits in shimmering bells and analog tape warble, evoking a collective dream we each almost remember, but can never quite place.

‘Dawn Continuous’ is the latest release from Silence and the Unwinking Minds, the creative moniker of musician and composer Derek Pearson. Drawing inspiration from recent contributions to film productions, this album weaves together music originally composed for scores and scenes across various cinematic projects.

At the heart of ‘Dawn Continuous’ is a modular synth, but its sonic palette reaches far beyond the electronic, embracing acoustic instruments like piano, glockenspiel, pump organ, and upright bass.

Each track on the album leans into its cinematic origins, moving fluidly between moments of quiet reflection and surges of brooding intensity. The intricate layering and emotional depth offer a listening experience that unfolds with each revisit, rewarding attentive ears with newfound textures and resonance.

Mohani is the solo project of Seoul-based musician Donghoon Han. Using instruments like the Ciat-Lonbarde, Monome Norns, and OP-1, he creates immersive ambient works focused on capturing fleeting moments of beauty in sound.

This album reflects a journey that began with intimate house concerts in a fading neighborhood of old Seoul—13 shows hosted in his own living room from 2023 to 2024, under the name ‘Bitter and Sound’. Those gatherings became the seed for a small but growing ambient community in South Korea.

Now based at Kunst Kabinett—a new listening space Mohani co-founded in the heart of Seoul—his practice continues to evolve. Every month, the venue hosts ambient musicians from Korea and abroad, alongside collaborations with artists working in film, visual art, and performance.

The album was recorded in the very house shown on the cover. The lo-fi textures, static, and background noise were all intentionally included to reflect the atmosphere of the old house and to explore the aesthetic of filtering urban noise—revealing the hidden beauty of sound within Seoul.

‘Seoul Static’ draws on the textures, moods, and quiet moments shaped in those rooms. It’s both a document and an invitation: to listen more closely, to slow down, and to find stillness in sound.

Be sure to check out the video for “1-11-5 Mita, Minato-ku, Tokyo” - now at the top of the Bandcamp release page - with a montage of photos, you’ll get a sense of Tatsuro’s neighborhood where his family lived for generations, just before the demolition (and photos from the beginning of the redevelopment). Editing was done by our friend Yudai Osawa. From the vinyl insert liner notes:

“The album’s story was inspired by the demolition and transformation of a small neighborhood near the Azabu-Juban area in Tokyo, called Mita Koyama-cho (三田小山町).
In the 1990s, rumors began about plans to redevelop the neighborhood by some Japanese corporations. In 2023, these plans finally took shape, and all the houses and shops in the area were demolished. My family’s house had stood there since the early 1930s, and several of my relatives had lived there over the years. Most of them have since passed away, by the end of 2023, the entire neighborhood was gone. I still feel a deep connection to that house, the memories of my family, and the stories of all the people who lived in and were a part of that small community. This album is my personal tribute to the house, the neighborhood, and to all of my family who spent their precious time there.”

‘KOKEI NO AWAI’, the latest album from Japanese experimental artist kent watari, is a hauntingly intimate exploration of memory, place, and perception—translated through a challenging, abstract sound. Drawing from the ambient and avant-electronic traditions of artists like Oneohtrix Point Never and Tim Hecker, watari’s work is at once deeply personal and universally reflective.

The title translates loosely to “Distance of the Scenes,” blending KOKEI (a view, a scene) and AWAI, a uniquely Japanese word describing the nuanced space or distance between things. This liminal concept becomes the conceptual core of the album—where vivid everyday moments are abstracted, blended, and reimagined through sonic textures.

Grounded in electro-experimentation, it also weaves in elements of traditional Japanese music, providing moments of organic warmth and familiarity amidst digital abstraction.

The album is a tribute to .ppp - an avant-garde(ning) flower shop in Nagoya, Japan that hosts a special event called “Flower Listening” multiple times a year. Shawn often played at the event and found himself making more and more new songs especially to fit the space.

In February, I got to connect with Shawn for the first time at the tumbleweed Flower Listening event - it was an inspiration to be a part of what they have going on there, and our connection led quickly to Mystery Circles being part of his fantastic new album.

Lullatone has been going strong for 25+ years and the melodies just keep flowing! We hope you enjoy this new collection of botanical background sounds that bloom and blossom into an arrangement of atmospheric ambience - ‘Music for My Friend’s Flower Shop’ is sure to enter the environmental / kankyō ongaku canon for years to come.

Hiroshi Ebina’s third solo album with Mystery Circles is dedicated to his grandparents, with whom Ebina had lived in the same house since he was a child. His grandmother passed away in 2021 and his grandfather in 2023. Ebina’s grandparents were a very ordinary family with nothing special to say. Nevertheless, they were invaluable to the artist, and the impact they both had on his life is significant. The title of the album refers to the fact that both grandparents passed away in the fall after a gap of two years. The album cover image was taken by Ebina himself on a vintage Contax film camera. The two structures on the horizon fading in the distance allude to his grandparents in the beyond.

Arthur Song is a modular synthesist and sound designer from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, currently based out of Liège, Belgium. After releasing music under FORM NULL and other various aliases for the past 15 years, this marks his first release under his real name. The ‘A.Song’ project aims to provide a counterbalance to the darker, more sombre explorations of his FORM NULL work.

His first release under the A. Song moniker, ‘Woodland Drift’ is a document of subtle and meandering rhythms, darting and weaving their way amongst dense synthetic environments. A crisp, bold production of psychedelic, experimental ambient + sound design.
