Is 13 to young to be charged with murder?
This is a sad and at the same time interesting case. Here, a group of 10 teens are accused of being to death a 17 year old over a stolen ma*****na v**e pen.
The viral video of the fight is hard to watch. To see the level of violence involving a group of teens. One question for me is if the mob mentality played a factor in this matter. Not that it excuses the behavior but just my curiosity.
Nine teens have been arrested and a tenth teen is being sought by law enforcement. The youngest is a thirteen year old. His fifteen year old brother is also charged.
Four of the teens have been moved from the juvenile court to adult court, including the fifteen year old brother of the thirteen year old.
On Wednesday the thirteen year old and four other suspects appeared in juvenile court in front of Judge Amy Mastin.
The State wants all the teens moved to adult court, including the thirteen year old.
Defense Attorney, Anthony Wright made an interesting argument for the thirteen year old. He argued:
“He is not competent at this time to understand the procedures. The roles of the people involved in the process, including his attorney, prosecutor, the judge, and so on,” and “He doesn't have a basic understanding of the court procedure.”
The Judge has ordered a competency evaluation be done for the thirteen year old.
But the question remains is thirteen to young to be charged with murder in adult court? What are your thoughts, should he remain in juvenile court or join his brother to face the charges in adult?
I’ve not made up my mind as to which side I more align with. I have questions. Do you? Let’s go off the record and discuss
