We are proud to announce that National Association of Hispanic Journalists President Dunia Elvir will visit the University of Nevada, Reno this upcoming Monday, March 9! She will speak to the community at a forum in the Joe Crowley Student Union Theatre at 11 a.m. If you cannot make it, you can catch her at 1pm at Reynolds School of Journalism. SUMMER INTERNSHIP DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MARCH 13 so that students from UNR and UNLV can join this webinar on Monday, Mar. 9 at 5pm with most, if not all, of the newsroom leaders where students may be place in Nevada this summer. (Please ask for link or gather together to participate in the discussion).

Based on funding the six potential newsrooms hosting student members are: KUNR Public Radio (Reno-based), KNPR Nevada Public Radio (Las Vegas-based), Las Vegas Review-Journal (Las Vegas-based), Nevada Current (Las Vegas-based; remote), Sierra Nevada Ally (Reno/Carson/Tahoe) and The Nevada Independent (remote).

This opportunity is made possible by a generous grant from the aimed to help Hispanic and Latino journalism students gain valuable internship experiences.

NAHJ Nevada today opens the application for newsrooms in the Silver State to receive subsidies from the chapter – thanks to the Scripps Howard Fund – to pay for a student intern from UNR or UNLV to cover Latino communities. Interested? Complete the form via the link in the bio by JAN. 27, 2026!

In the spirit of the holiday season, colleagues and friends in Nevada, we apologize for the lack of communication this fall. It's been really hectic for all of us (so thanks for understanding!).

Yesterday, the chapter members in Northern Nevada gathered to celebrate one another's accomplishments for the year at Telemundo Reno. Did you know that this is currently the only Spanish-language tv broadcast and it only runs for 30-minutes daily. They are hoping to launch an 11pm cast within the year, which means more job opportunities.

We'll be ready with talent from UNR and UNLV for sure! We are also excited to welcome other Latino journos wanting to experience the Mountain West.
