ELECTION RECOMMENDATIONS...
Remember that the local offices and ballot questions, have a significant effect on our day to day lives. So on that note: Let’s talk about the Nevada State Board of Regents.
For nearly 15 years I’ve been involved with and without KUNV Radio, - The Regents have had special interest to me, since they specifically own KUNV. It’s one of the ONLY things they own, which has more effect on the community than the UNLV Campus. And I have queried every local Regent, to create awareness about the recent debacle surrounding the station.
THINGS TO KNOW:
* Regents are unpaid, elected, volunteers.
* The positions are nonpartisan.
* Not all districts are up for reelection.
* Often, Regents use the position as a stepping stone to higher offices.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS:
* District 1 - covers Downtown Las Vegas, north of Charleston and most of North Las Vegas.
- Laura E Perkins for University Regent District 1 …Laura was one of the people who returned my call immediately. She’s seemingly a fantastic lady and in general, wants to return some normalcy to The Regents and close the revolving door of presidents, at UNLV. She actually saw the issues at KUNV Radio in even more detail than I did. And feels that unless the station was in dire straits (it wasn’t), UNLV Admin should let the station be. Stop essentially experimenting with public funds or a public entity, for their own clandestine purposes. She’s personally familiar with college radio and she found the new format choice to be highly dubious.
* District 12 - covers Green Valley, Henderson and Boulder City.

- Andrew Coates for Regent Andrew Coates http://www.coates4nevada.com
This matchup is a tough one for me. Seemingly both Amy and Andrew are lovely and thoughtful people. They don’t even seem like politicians. It’s weird. Andrew is a registered Republican and Amy, I suspect might be a registered Democrat. However, the political scientist in me senses they may both have some overlapping ideas. It’s a shame that they are running in the same district. District 12 is an important one. I’d encourage everyone to view their individual web pages or maybe respond with your feelings.
