Clark County Inaugurates “Filipino Town” to Honor Filipino Heritage and Community

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom joined Filipino community leaders, residents, and special guests — including Philippine Senator Risa Hontiveros — in a historic celebration marking the official designation of “Filipino Town” in Las Vegas. The event, held at the Boulevard Mall, featured the unveiling of a new street sign symbolizing the recognition of the Filipino community’s lasting impact on Southern Nevada. 🇵🇭

The newly designated area spans Maryland Parkway between Desert Inn Road and Flamingo Road, long recognized for its vibrant concentration of Filipino-owned businesses, restaurants, and cultural hubs. The milestone honors the rich heritage, culture, and contributions of Filipino Americans to Clark County’s dynamic social and economic landscape.

Senator Risa Hontiveros, one of the esteemed guests at the inauguration, praised the strong sense of unity and cultural pride among Filipinos in the United States. She highlighted how the creation of “Filipino Town” reflects not only the recognition of Filipino-American achievements but also the enduring bond between the Philippines and its diaspora.

The celebration was filled with traditional Filipino performances, community tributes, and messages of gratitude from local leaders. Commissioner Segerblom commended the Filipino community for its resilience and influence, noting that Filipino Americans have become “an integral part of Clark County’s cultural identity.”

Organizers said the establishment of “Filipino Town” not only celebrates history but also strengthens the sense of belonging and pride among Filipino Americans in Las Vegas — a vibrant community that continues to enrich the city’s diversity and spirit.

DDS Blogger Seeks Marcos’ Forgiveness After “Headshot” Controversy

MANILA — A blogger identified as Mike Romero, known for his support of the Duterte administration (DDS), has publicly apologized to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. after being arrested for posting a controversial image online.

The photo, which depicted the President with a drawn arrow on his head and the caption “Headshot,” went viral and prompted swift action from authorities. Romero was apprehended by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and now faces charges of inciting to sedition under Article 142 of the Revised Penal Code, in connection with Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

In a statement following his arrest, Romero expressed deep remorse, describing President Marcos Jr. as “a great leader” and asking for forgiveness for what he called a lapse in judgment.

If convicted, Romero could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years. The NBI emphasized that the case serves as a reminder that online expression carries accountability under Philippine law, especially when it threatens or disrespects public officials.

PCSO Sends Millions Worth of Aid to Victims of Typhoon Opong and Cebu Earthquake

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has distributed millions of pesos worth of relief goods to families affected by Typhoon Opong in Masbate and the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu.

According to the PCSO, the initial batch of relief assistance was delivered to the hardest-hit communities, providing food packs, bottled water, and hygiene kits to displaced families.

To further extend support, a PCSO relief caravan is scheduled to depart from Manila on Sunday, October 5, carrying more supplies, including 11 patient transport vehicles bound for Cebu and other essential goods for affected provinces.

Masbate remains under a state of calamity, with local authorities continuing to assess damage to infrastructure and livelihoods. In Cebu, thousands of residents are still staying in temporary shelters following the powerful quake and continuous aftershocks.

Estrada to File Perjury Charges Against Former Engineer Over “Fabricated” Kickback Claims

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Jinggoy Estrada announced plans to file a perjury complaint against former Bulacan assistant district engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez over what he described as “imaginary and made-up” accusations linking him to alleged anomalies in government infrastructure projects.

In a statement released Monday, Estrada’s office confirmed that the senator will formally lodge the case before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday, October 7.

The move comes after Hernandez testified during a House of Representatives hearing on September 8, claiming that Estrada had allocated ₱355 million in the 2025 national budget for flood control projects in Bulacan. Hernandez further alleged that the senator received 30 percent of the total amount as a “standard operating procedure” or kickback.

Estrada strongly denied the allegations, calling them “baseless, malicious, and completely fabricated.” He maintained that he has never been involved in any form of corruption, labeling Hernandez’s statements as “a desperate attempt to malign my name and reputation.”

The senator also reiterated his challenge for both parties to undergo a lie-detector test to prove who is telling the truth.

“If he is confident with his accusations, then he should agree to a polygraph test. I am willing to take one myself,” Estrada declared.

The controversy adds to the growing tension in ongoing legislative inquiries into alleged irregularities in infrastructure funding. Estrada’s legal action marks the latest move in his effort to clear his name and hold his accuser accountable.

IBP Honors Duterte with “Golden Pillar of Law” Award After 50 Years in the Legal Profession

Davao City, September 15, 2025 — In a ceremony held at the Hall of Justice in Davao City, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) conferred upon former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte the esteemed Golden Pillar of Law Award, recognizing his five decades of service in the legal profession.

The Golden Pillar of Law Award is reserved for lawyers who have demonstrated 50 years of dedicated, honest, and exceptional service in both public and private legal practice. Recipients are expected to exemplify integrity, commitment to the rule of law, and sustained contributions to the legal community.

By granting Duterte this recognition, IBP acknowledges not only his legal background but also the longevity of his career across various public roles.

Rodrigo Duterte earned his law degree and has maintained a legal identity even as he took on political and executive roles. Before becoming president (2016–2022), Duterte held several positions in local government in Davao City, including as mayor, vice-mayor, and congressman.

His legal career has thus spanned both private practice and public service—pillars considered by the IBP in selecting awardees.

DLSU Students Stage Walkout to Protest Alleged Misuse of Public Funds

Students of De La Salle University–Manila staged a walkout rally on Monday, October 6, 2025, to protest what they described as the government’s misuse of public funds, particularly those linked to controversial flood-control projects.

Chanting calls for transparency and accountability, student leaders and activists gathered at the university grounds before marching toward Taft Avenue, denouncing corruption and urging authorities to investigate the alleged irregularities in infrastructure spending.

Organizers said the protest aimed to amplify public outrage over billions of pesos in questionable allocations that, according to them, could have been used to improve education and disaster preparedness instead.

University officials said the demonstration remained peaceful and was conducted in coordination with campus security. Meanwhile, the students vowed to continue their call for good governance and responsible public spending.
