Celebrate the launch of our new space and the release of the first six editions of HAPAX Magazine – a platform dedicated to showcasing new works by lens-based artists. Over the past four years, HAPAX Magazine has commissioned 50+ artists to create original pieces, and now, they're deconstructing these magazine editions into mini exhibitions. These pages are more than just prints; they represent the creative journey and vision of each artist. 🖤

Excited to announce that Reality Wrecking Distribution is showcasing at the FORMAT25 Photobook Market from the 14th - 16th March at QUAD, Derby.

At FORMAT25, we are proud to feature works from:

• Hapax Magazine – A bi-annual publication commissioning international lens-based artists and curators to test new ideas.
• James Stanford – The Atomic Kid and Shimmering Zen explore the intersection of digital art, spirituality, and Las Vegas iconography. Shimmering Zen reimagines vintage Vegas through digitally woven mandalas, while The Atomic Kid delves into the city’s atomic-era history through vibrant imagery.
• Linda Alterwitz – Injection Site is a powerful visual response to the COVID-19 vaccine experience, reflecting personal and collective narratives through striking imagery.
• Fred Sigman – Motel Vegas is a photographic exploration of the rise and decline of Las Vegas’ iconic mid-century motels, offering a nostalgic and critical look at the city’s evolving landscape.

Nawari Koans is Robert J. Fitzwater’s interpretation of the Wumenguan, a thirteenth-century collection of 48 Zen Koans compiled by the Chinese monk Wu-men Hui-K’ai.

In Zen, a Koan is a phrase from teachings or an episode from the life of an ancestor containing a paradox that can’t be understood through logic or thinking. It provides the Zen student with a direct experience of the intuitive “knowing” that lies beyond talking and thinking. Written for a distinctly American audience, Fitzwater brings the 48 Koans to life in a style and prose that is a direct result of his upbringing in the Appalachians of West Virginia.

Robert J. Fitzwater (1934-2010) was a cultural anthropologist, archaeologist, and lifelong practitioner of Zen who blended academic rigor with a deeply personal spiritual practice. Born in Clay County, West Virginia, Fitzwater’s eclectic journey included military service, roles in academia, contributions to NASA’s Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, and a period of isolation in the Saudi Arabian desert. Despite decades of Zen study, Fitzwater resisted formal recognition as a dharma teacher, instead embodying Zen principles in ordinary conversations, fieldwork, and even barroom discussions. His writings reflect the insights of an ordinary man seeking profound truth. His teachings, while informal and unorthodox, have left a lasting impact on students, friends, and readers seeking a practical and authentic approach to the dharma.
