🧪🐶 WELCOME TO THE ENRICHMENT LAB — EPISODE 1
Where I test enrichment ideas on Scarlett + Hopper to find out which ones are actually worth making…and which ones took me longer to prepare than it took them to destroy. 😂
First experiment:
🥬 Frozen celery
🥣 Plain Greek yogurt
🫐 Blueberries
And I’ll tell you right now: this is NOT going to be the longest-lasting enrichment treat we test.
But you know what it has going for it?
It’s easy AF to make. 😂
Take a piece of celery, fill it with a little plain Greek yogurt, add some blueberries, throw it in the freezer.
That’s it.
No blender.
No special molds.
No elaborate recipe.
No 25-minute Pinterest dog-mom project.
And you’re still giving them a little enrichment because instead of inhaling a treat in two seconds, freezing it encourages them to spend some time licking, chewing, crunching and working to get everything off the celery.
Plus, we’ve got some pretty solid ingredients:
🥬 Celery is low in fat and calories and contains fiber and several vitamins and minerals. It’s also SUPER crunchy, giving them something satisfying to chew.
🥣 Plain Greek yogurt adds protein and calcium and makes the celery significantly more exciting than…well…a piece of celery. 😂 Just make sure you’re using plain, unsweetened yogurt with NO xylitol, and keep in mind that some dogs don’t tolerate dairy well.
🫐 Blueberries are low-calorie little treats that contain fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants.
Is this going to occupy Scarlett + Hopper for 45 minutes?
Absolutely not. 😂
But for something that takes me approximately 90 seconds to make, uses ingredients I can grab at the grocery store and gives them a little extra licking, chewing and mental stimulation?
I’ll take it.
Sometimes enrichment doesn’t need to be elaborate. It just needs to make your dog work a little harder for something they’d normally inhale.
