ROYSTON – Keith Turman has announced that he will end his campaign to seek reelection as mayor of Royston.
Turman, who is in his first term as mayor Royston, has been either a member of the Royston City Council or mayor for 25 years. He served on the Downtown Development Authority in the city before that.
He qualified for reelection in August. City Council Member Jason Phillips resigned in August to oppose Turman.

!!!!!!! UPDATE!!!!!!!

In the morning hours of Saturday, September 13, 2025, an incident occurred in the Canon community of Franklin County, Georgia. This incident resulted in one male being transported by helicopter for injuries sustained, and a suspect leading Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies on a chase to the northern end of the county.
The suspect, who was traveling in a vehicle that had been reported stolen from out of state, crashed the vehicle through a pasture fence and into a tree, and exited the vehicle, fleeing into the woods.
Multiple agencies are assisting in the search for Clinton Patrick Miller, who has numerous outstanding warrants from other agencies, and is facing Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon charges from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
This investigation is on-going, and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone who may know of Miller’s location, please call 911. Do not approach Miller, as he is currently considered armed and dangerous.

After a week off, Franklin County football will be back on the field tonight at 7:30 p.m. at West-Oak High School in Westminster, S.C. Since we don't have any Friday night photos to share this week, this will be a great time to share these other fall sports shots from softball, volleyball and cross country this season at FCHS. Time is running out to show Franklin County just how pretty your pet is.
The deadline to enter the Franklin County Citizen Leader's Prettiest Pet (and Animal) contest is Sunday at midnight.
To enter, animal lovers may send a photo of their pets and animals to [email protected] or message us on the Franklin County Citizen Leader page.
There is no limit to how many different pets and animals can be entered, but please limit entries to just one photo per animal.
Entries will be pared down into finalists, judged and first, second and third place winners will be named overall and in several different categories.
Winners will be published in the paper Sept. 25. All photos will be published on the Franklin County Citizen Leader page.
