U.S. HIGHWAY 59 CRASH - D25-20702

Five people were transported to area hospitals after a two-vehicle crash occurred about 4:45 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 59 and N 1100 Road south of Lawrence.

According to preliminary information, deputies determined a vehicle was headed west on N 1100, and the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. A southbound vehicle on U.S. 59 then struck the westbound vehicle.

Three people in the westbound vehicle suffered injuries - two of them with serious injuries. Two people in the southbound vehicle were transported from the scene to an area hospital with serious injuries as well.

Deputies shut down the southbound lanes for an extended period of time for medics to extricate the patients and to investigate the crash scene. The highway's lanes reopened before 7 p.m. Saturday.

We are thrilled to announce that our Groundbreaking Event to kick off our Capital Campaign, Hope Grows Here, is on September 25 at 10 am on the Ranch property. We hope you can join us!

The Hope Grows Here Campaign will allow us to complete much needed upgrades to our residential facilities and create Elsie's Place--our family service center where at-risk youth and families can work with our professional staff and an intake space to help youth and families with immediate needs. Elsie's Place will also feature three specialized beds to serve as an emergency placement option for youth in crisis. We'd be honored to have you there to celebrate the beginning of this new chapter.

Join the Native Lands and Lawrence Bird Alliance teams for an adventure through the prairie, listening for bird songs and gathering seeds from the land. Together, we'll build our own bird feeder platforms or seed cleaning screens, vital tools in providing nutritious food to our animal friends. No woodworking skill necessary! We'll provide the materials, tools, and education. This is an all-ages friendly event and everyone is welcome! Bring binoculars for a chance to view native birds on the hike.
