Bridge to remain closed

WEST HARRISON – The truss bridge over the Whitewater River in West Harrison will remain closed until the work is completed.

The Indiana Department of Transportation initially said the bridge would reopen this fall and then close again in the spring. Now, the bridge will remain closed until all rehabilitation work is complete, which is anticipated to be in the fall of 202. The official detour remains – U.S. RO to Interstate 74 to State Route 1.

State Road 46 truss bridge rehabilitation includes a full bridge deck replacement, sandblasting and painting of the bridge, steel beam repair and replacement where needed, and minor maintenance, aggregate, and erosion control work.

This work is part of a $10.6 million contract awarded to Beaty Construction in October 2024.

$1 million bond set for man charged with dealing methamphetamine
LAWRENCEBURG – A man suspected of selling methamphetamine is under a $1 million cash bond.
Troy Thomas, 38, of Cincinnati, was placed under the bond at a hearing Oct. 10, before Judge Jonathan Cleary. He is charged with three counts of dealing in methamphetamine with a habitual offender sentencing enhancement, according to Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens.
Thomas was arrested Oct. 8 in Greendale by members of the Dearborn County Sheriff Department when detectives and members of the command staff saw Thomas park where he often allegedly sold suspected narcotics. During the arrest, about 117.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine were found.
According to Deddens, the investigation started earlier this year when the Special Crimes Unit began looking into Thomas for distributing large amounts of methamphetamine in the county. Detectives developed a confidential source who had been able to purchase large quantities from Thomas in the past.
The first purchase of methamphetamine was made on Sept. 24 in the amount of 54.6 grams, Deddens said. On Oct. 1, Thomas came back to Dearborn County and allegedly sold 57.3 grams, and then on Oct. 8, Thomas allegedly had approximately 117.9 grams of methamphetamine concealed in his groin area.
Thomas is jailed in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center. If convicted of the charges, he faces from 10 to 30 years in prison on the dealing in methamphetamine and an additional 6 to 20 years on the habitual offender enhancement.
"Mr. Thomas' criminal history includes priors for trafficking in drugs, robbery and possession of controlled substances, which is why the habitual offender sentencing enhancement was filed,” Deddens said. “It is alleged that he brought a massive amount of methamphetamine to Dearborn County on multiple occasions from Cincinnati. My office is committed to aggressive prosecution of these kinds of cases in an effort to get drugs out of our community. I want to thank the Dearborn County Sheriff's Department for the good police work that went into making this arrest."

Looking for cybersecurity

HARRISON TOWNSHIP – Township trustees decided not to use HCC for cybersecurity.

HCC provides the township with its email and office phone service. It proposed a $6,000 contract for cybersecurity.

The state requires each local government entity to implement a basic cybersecurity program. It should include annual cybersecurity training for employees, a cyber incident response plan, practices to assess and remediate cyber risks, and a reporting program. The plan must be in place by July 1.

The township will now review a program from the Ohio Township Association to meet these requirements.
