My latest Week In Review is up.

47/52

"Work. Think. Feel." Louis Danziger

This week, for me, went quick. Did a couple of photoshoots, edited a batch of photos, delivered photos, saw friends.

I also watched some great movies (film noir, a wonderful documentary by Ben Stiller an old Redford film), read some good books (Mariah Fredericks, Jennifer O'Callaghan in the mix) and listened to some great music, thanks to Seth McFarlan. Check it all out at the blog link below.

Most importantly, remember, if you're making Thanksgiving dinner for the first time or the 1,000th time, it'll be great!

And if someone is making it, and you'll be enjoying it...it'll be great. If, for some reason it's not, say it is. Be thankful. Be a good person.

Also at the link in my my bio, find some good reads...like an old blog post (but still relevant) from Joe McNally about staying call when the sh*t hits the fan; a look at Elliott Erwitt's color work; some visual inspiration this week, via Mark Mahaney and his set of Mikhail Baryshnikov images; some favorite photos I saw this week, via the FSA, shot in long-ago Chicago by Jack Delano; an interesting, older video interview with Jay Maisel; and a look at artist/designer Louis Danziger at 102 ,via Print Magazine

And, in a week where "Quite, piggy" became a knucklehead's irritated rebuff, and then a Resistance movement rally cry, a look back at a post from 2008, where I relayed a story from 2001, which is when I was in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with Joe McNally, a new type of camera, and pig named Flo. Got all that?

All this, at the blog link below.

Be thankful it's there!

The great documentary photographer, Robert Frank, would have turned 101 today. I came across this quote of his this week, that I found interesting:

“𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴, 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘸. 𝘞𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘥. 𝘐𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘳. 𝘈𝘴 𝘪𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘧𝘶𝘭. 𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭. 𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦. 𝘐𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘥, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭.”

You may agree, or not. Something to consider.

My latest free newsletter is up on my website. Click the link in my bio to read more.

Also in this week's newsletter, links to good stuff, like a great NPR interview with Guillermo del Toro/I watched Frankenstein this week and loved it. Also a link to some BTS photos, too. In addition, a look at the National Archives exhibition of Russell Lee's documentary photography of coal mining families; and interview with movie set still photographer David Lee (Spike's brother); A look at David Arnold's new priorities as an artist and photographer, via Aperture.f; A cool watch, the trailer to the Steve Shapiro documentary, Being Everywhere, via DCTV; and a tribute to a "photographer of souls", photojournalist Antoni Lallican

All this, plus what I read, watched and listened to this week, for inspiration and information, for free at the link in bio. Click and check it out!

'Tis November.

This week over on the Visual Week In Review, I'm writing about actually looking forward - at least for a few weeks - to this time of year.

Yes, it's chilly and less light, but more time to burrow down and recharge in the darkness. Some call it a "Winter Arc" - not a bad way to look at it.

Read more of my essay at the link below. And find links to more good stuff in the way of photography, books, writing and movies.
