Student safety and security is our top priority at Altus Public Schools. Today, August 16, 2023, a report of a possible threat was made to Altus High School administration. Altus Public School resource officers worked swiftly with the Altus Police Department and Altus Air Force Base Security Forces. Working K-9s were brought to the high school and after one alerted, a team from Fort Sill Army Base was called to the scene. After multiple interviews were conducted by Altus Police Department and the school was thoroughly searched by the team from Fort Sill, no credible threat was found.

Altus Public Schools sends out a sincere thank you to our APS Resource Officers, Altus Police Department, and Altus Air Force Base Security Forces for their swift actions today. We appreciate the professionalism and calmness our faculty, staff, students, and parents exhibited throughout the evacuation and dismissal process. All students were evacuated and dismissed safely.

Individuals who have been diagnosed with conditions that result in moderate to severe levels of immunocompromised are eligible to receive a third dose. The third dose should be given at least 28 days after the second dose of Pfizer or Moderna. Those with other, non-immunocompromised conditions (including but not limited to chronic disease or residing in group living arrangements considered high risk settings) are not recommended to receive an additional dose at this time.

An additional dose is NOT recommended at this time for individuals who received the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine. If there are any questions, patients are encouraged to connect with their healthcare provider or local pharmacist to discuss the third vaccination. Patients seeking their third dose from a county health department will not have to show proof or medical documentation.

Photos from the Earth Day Art Fashion Show!!

During the six months of producing and directing this event, I told the models that this was a one time thing. I could not have done this without the support of the Lawton business sponsors and the community! Thanks to your support, I'm looking forward to bringing a second Earth Day event to Lawton next year! I loved creating the scenes and choosing my favorite songs to create the vision. Each model represented a season or element of the earth and posed with art by Ashley Morrison and Monique Cherrelle. I am very proud of this event, the models and all that helped make it a success!!! I loved foraging plants from nature and creating costumes of real plants for diverse models. I loved inviting vendors and choosing giveaways for the audience. I wanted the event to have all the elements of art: art, dance, poetry, fashion, martial arts, nature and for it to be as organic as possible. If you attended this event, please write a review on google for Verdejo Events LLC https://g.page/r/CaXzGJQVmiOWEB0/review. Verdejo Events LLC has hosted several community events in Lawton so far, but this was the first ticketed event. Thank you so much to everyone that promoted the event including KCCU Public Radio, KXCA Heart and Soul 93.7, KJMZ 97.9 JAMZ, 580 Monthly, KSWO 7 News and the Lawton Constitution; the show was sold out because of it! I'm so grateful for all the support!!!
