Student safety and security is our top priority at Altus Public Schools. Today, August 16, 2023, a report of a possible threat was made to Altus High School administration. Altus Public School resource officers worked swiftly with the Altus Police Department and Altus Air Force Base Security Forces. Working K-9s were brought to the high school and after one alerted, a team from Fort Sill Army Base was called to the scene. After multiple interviews were conducted by Altus Police Department and the school was thoroughly searched by the team from Fort Sill, no credible threat was found.
Altus Public Schools sends out a sincere thank you to our APS Resource Officers, Altus Police Department, and Altus Air Force Base Security Forces for their swift actions today. We appreciate the professionalism and calmness our faculty, staff, students, and parents exhibited throughout the evacuation and dismissal process. All students were evacuated and dismissed safely.
