Anonymous threats cause shutdowns in
Leadville

Lake County School District (LCSD), the City of Leadville and Lake County Government are all on shutdown after a threat was made against the schools and local government.

Local dispatch received an anonymous call shortly before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, making threats against the Lake County District Attorney’s Office and stating that an explosive device was placed near the schools.

The Lake County Courthouse, Leadville City Hall and all LCSD facilities shut down at approximately 6 a.m. on Nov. 12. In a press release from Nov. 12, Lake County Sheriff’s Office stated that they are actively investigating and are conducting sweeps of all of the affected facilities.

The La Plata wildfire has reached 82 acres in size and is at zero percent containment as of 10:15 a.m. on Aug. 21. The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) is reporting that the fire is human-caused.

Wildfire active in southern Lake County

Federal Forest Firefighters are currently fighting a fire that ignited near the La Plata Trail in northern Chaffee County. The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office reported that the fire is estimated to be 15 to 20 acres as of 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18 and has crossed into southern Lake County.

A shooting occurred in Leadville on Wednesday night, Aug. 13, at Ice Palace Park, according to relatives of the victim. No injuries were reported.

The Leadville Police Department has confirmed there was in fact an incident at the park on Wednesday, but the department has not released any additional information citing the fact that there are juveniles involved.

More details below, updates will be provided as they become availabile. ⬇️
