Rodderius Morton, a 20 year old special needs man, was fatally shot in Memphis after allegedly hiding under a 13 year old girl's bed. Morton's former teacher, Robin Perkins, described him as cognitively impaired, soft-spoken, and respectful. The shooter, Kendra Scott, is charged with first-degree murder.

Perkins expressed deep sorrow, arguing that Morton likely misunderstood the law, didn't comprehend the situation, and was vulnerable to being misled. She stated there were numerous opportunities to handle the situation without lethal force, such as calling the police or detaining him.

Authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances of how the pair met, including the possibility that Morton connected with the juvenile online. Scott’s bond was set at $100,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court in August.
