Calling all local musicians! Click on the link below for more info and to register to play!

Hello!

You are cordially invited to participate in the Boone County Symphony Independence Day Concert on the evening of July 5th to celebrate our nation turning 250 years old! Members of the Boone County Community Orchestra and Boone County Community Band are working diligently to put this event together for our community.

For those who have been part of the community for a while, you may remember some years ago the "Symphony at Sunset" where the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra performed at Abner Longley Park followed by fireworks. We'd love to bring that celebration back and really make it a community celebration for such a special year. Food vendors, family activities, a big concert with multiple performing groups, all followed by fireworks are on the table, but WE NEED YOUR HELP!

To make this possible, we need a headcount of 75 musicians to perform in the symphony by March 14th so we can get the ball rolling on plans. To sign-up, fill out our quick form HERE or print off the attached sign-up form. If you wish to sign up multiple musicians, you can opt to submit the group sign up sheet instead (also attached). For our school band and choir directors, we would love this event to be part of your summer band plans and can help offer credit to your students for participating! For our churches and music studios participating, this will be a great performance outlet and a way to get involved in our community!

Below are some details:

This event is FREE for musicians, singers, and groups to participate!
Symphony music will be patriotic and at a lower intermediate level.
Musicians and singers of all ages and abilities are welcome to perform! We welcome middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults! Adults do not need to be professionals to join. Those who've not touched their instrument in awhile are also welcome! We recommend at least two years of playing experience on their instrument, especially for younger musicians.

Musicians participating in the combined symphony should attend at least two rehearsals, including the dress rehearsal. Here are the dates:
Monday, June 8th, 7-8pm
Monday, June 15th, 7-8pm
Monday, June 22nd, 7-8pm
Monday, June 29th, 6:30-8pm (dress rehearsal)
We've also attached a flyer you can print and post or pass out.

We look forward to you joining us for this huge celebration event! Again, we would like a headcount by March 14th, so tell your students, friends, family, and neighbors about this opportunity to participate!

Thanks,
Amanda Kercheval
Amy Morrison
Barb Springer
Cati Ferguson
Natalee Baker

Groups of all kinds and levels are invited to perform before the symphony concert. School bands and choirs are especially encouraged to play their school's fight song.

The Family Music Studio recital today was wonderful! Congratulations to all the students! In this picture, everyone is holding a rubber slingshot chicken that was a prize for completing a six week program called β€œTiny Goals Program.”

Why a slingshot chicken? A number of years ago my studio presented a program on humor in music. We played a chicken song, and two rubber slingshot chickens have lived in my studio ever since. πŸ˜‚ Every now and then, after a student has worked hard in the lesson, we take a minute to play, β€œCan you hit the doorknob with the rubber chicken?”

Students were very excited about their prizes. And one student who always does online lessons assured me that she would cherish it forever because she has never gotten to experience the chickens in-person! πŸ˜†

Many thanks to everyone who participated - performers, audience, and volunteers! You made the evening special! I was so happy to have all seven of my children together for the first time in about eight years and joining me in performance.

Here are two videos. The first is a video of the entire concert with time stamps in the description. It is 1 hr 8 min long. The second is a short video, just 2 min 41 sec, of concert photos accompanied by the FMS String Ensemble, Fiddlesticks, Running River Strings, and guests playing Ashokan Farewell.

This concert also marked the first time I have shared the stage with a grandchild! The photo below is my grandson Quincy.

This is a video I made during the pandemic with all seven of my children. They are all adults (currently ages 45-26) and I was curious to hear what they would say about the role music plays in their adult lives. After all, they grew up in a highly musical home. I taught them all violin and piano to varying levels. They branched out into other instruments. But do they still play today? Is music important to them as adults? Watch this video to hear them share!
