📝•”By far one of the most successful athletic programs at McKendree University is the women’s bowling team. Last year, they won the NCAA bowling championship, and with a winning history behind them, the women’s bowling team is now aiming to defend their national title. A history of winning comes with high expectations and a lot of pressure, and when you are number one, others are hungry to knock you off the podium.”

When talking about what it is like being President of the Psychology Club, Breanna said she enjoys “being able to work alongside Dr. Hahn and brainstorm fun and creative ways to get students involved and engaged beyond the classroom.”

Implementing love in our lives is incredibly important to help us live the healthiest life possible. Many types of love are ignored in our society, and it is important for all types of love – not just romantic love – to get the recognition they deserve.”

•McKendree’s Record-Setting Career Fair•

✍🏼•Madison Rohn

📝• “On February 15, McKendree’s annual career fair was held in the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts. A record number of 76 different employers and graduate schools were registered for this year’s fair. Tables of organizations such as nonprofits, businesses, police departments, graduate schools and government agencies lined the Hett lobby and wrapped around the stage. Many of these organizations were looking to hire part-time or full-time employees or had internships to offer. The fair also gave students an opportunity to practice networking, even if they were not looking for a job or internship at the moment.”

•Wrestling in the Hett: A Historic Event •

✍🏼•Elma Oijens Sjoelin

📝• “On February 7th, 2023, something historical happened on the campus of McKendree University. For the first time in history, a sporting event was held in the Russel E. & Fern M. Hettenhausen Center for the Arts, commonly known as “The Hett.” The Hett has always had a busy schedule of hosting art events, plays, shows, and fairs, but never before had a sporting event been held in the spacious state-of-the-art facility.

The McKendree men’s wrestling team had the honor of hosting and winning a duel against Davenport University on the Hett stage.”

📝• “With the plethora of clubs that are present on campus, there is no shortage of organizations for students to join. One club that is often overlooked is McKendree’s Rotaract Club. This type of club isn’t reserved for McKendree, or even universities in general, but is an international organization. There are community-led Rotary organizations around the globe that are welcome to all members.”

Dear Bogey,

I am a recent college graduate who just started my dream job a little less than three months ago. I absolutely love working for this company and have made some great friends along the way. My manager has been asking me to help her steal money for a couple of weeks now. I know that it is wrong of me to help her, but I don’t want to lose my job by refusing to help her steal money for her personal benefit. Bogey, should I turn in my manager to a higher-up official in the company or just continue to do what she is asking me to do, in hopes that she eventually stops asking me to assist her with these actions?

Sincerely, Loyal Worker

Counseling services provide the most adequate aid for McKendree’s students and faculty, which requires no fees or charges to those who attend the institution. The assistant director of health and counseling services, Melissa McHenry, and Charles Gregory, who is the university counselor at McKendree, educate students and faculty in creating better mental health and well-being for themselves.”

•Months on End: A Wonderful Play Put on by Our Peers•

✍🏼•Kristina Ferry

📝• “A group of our peers here at McKendree put on a wonderful play that they had been practicing for months. This play was called Months on End, and it was written by Craig Pospisil in 2002. This play covered the lives of eight young individuals over the course of a year and the struggles they face within their relationships, both familial and romantic. Some of the key relationships that the audience watched roll out were: Phoebe and Ben, two fiancees who have some lingering doubt about whether marriage is right for them, and Elaine and Walter, a couple unsure of what their future actions should be as Walter is currently divorcing his wife.”

Dear Bogey,

My sister and her best friend, who I am also friends with, have gotten into a fight and haven’t spoken to each other for a few weeks now. My sister jokes a lot with the people she cares about, and our friend is very sensitive. So, from my understanding, the fight started from a joke my sister made about our friend that she took personally. My sister doesn’t want to apologize because she doesn’t think she did anything wrong, and our friend has been ignoring her and avoids her at school. I got the two of them to talk to each other for one night when we went out to eat together, but I think that was only because I was there because they stopped talking to each other again afterwards. Their fight is affecting the rest of our friend group as well because they don’t want to go to events if the other is there, and they both barely use our group chat anymore. I’m frustrated that neither of them wants to be the bigger person since it has been almost a month since the fight happened. Sometimes I wonder if they even want to be friends anymore, but I still care about both of them, and it’s exhausting being the middle person. What should I do to help them get back together, if they even should be friends again?

Sincerely,

Tired Mediator

Dear Bogey,

Since moving to college, I have had no trouble finding friends. I have found multiple groups of guys and girls that I like to hang out with. My roommate just told me the other day that they no longer want any of my friends coming over to our apartment because they are too loud and always leave a mess, even though I don’t think either of those statements are true. I’ve always made sure to pick up the place after they left anyway. I think my roommate is worried that they will be “replaced” which is also not true because I am close with them. What can I say to my roommate to try and alleviate the situation where I can still be able to hang out with my friends, and my roommate doesn’t feel left out or that our relationship is being jeopardized?

📝• “The Development, Alumni & Parent Relations Department house is located just south of campus in the Alumni House. The mission of the department is for alumni, donors, and students to buy into giving back their time, talent, and treasure to the university.

The Development, Alumni & Parent Relations Department is one with their hand in many baskets. The Development, Alumni & Parent Relations Department is responsible for any fundraising not through the university. This includes any donations from donors or fundraising events put on by the department. Stephen Kull, the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, says the department is focused on transformational experience not only for the alumni and donors but for the students as well.”

📝• “With the midterm elections approaching quickly, it is very important to know who is running and to understand the views they have before voting. It is not a good idea to roll up to the polling site and just take a guess if you truly care about who you want to be in office. For the state of Illinois, two candidates are running for the House of Representatives. Republican Mike Bost is currently in office. Running against him is Democrat Homer Markel. Overall, each candidate has their own belief system and plan.”
