🚨 Tornado Preparedness: Protect Yourself, Your Home & Your Valuables 🚨
Tornadoes can strike with little warning, so it’s crucial to be prepared. Here’s what you can do before, during, and after a tornado to stay safe!
✅ BEFORE A TORNADO
✔ Make a Plan – Identify a safe shelter (basement, storm cellar, or interior room without windows).
✔ Stay Informed – Have a NOAA weather radio, enable emergency alerts on your phone, and follow trusted weather sources.
✔ Create an Emergency Kit – Include water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, first aid supplies, important documents, and medications.
✔ Secure Your Home – Trim trees, secure outdoor furniture, and reinforce garage doors and windows.
✔ Protect Important Documents – Store insurance papers, IDs, and property records in a waterproof and fireproof safe or cloud storage.
✔ Know Your Evacuation Route – If evacuation is necessary, plan how you will leave safely.
🌪 DURING A TORNADO
🔴 Take Shelter Immediately – Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor. Avoid windows!
🔴 Cover Yourself – Use mattresses, helmets, blankets, or even a bathtub to protect against flying debris.
🔴 If in a Vehicle – DO NOT try to outrun a tornado! Get to a sturdy building or, if caught outside, lie flat in a ditch covering your head.
🔴 Listen for Updates – Stay tuned to local weather alerts for real-time information.
✅ AFTER A TORNADO
✔ Check for Injuries – Provide first aid if necessary and call for help if anyone is injured.
✔ Avoid Downed Power Lines – Stay away from damaged electrical wires and report hazards.
✔ Assess Home Damage – Take photos for insurance claims and make temporary repairs to prevent further damage.
✔ Be Cautious of Gas Leaks – If you smell gas, turn it off and leave the house immediately.
✔ Help Neighbors – Check on others, especially the elderly and those with disabilities.
Preparation can save lives! Share this with your family and friends so they can be ready too. Stay safe! 💨💙
