Open Road Press was established in 2012 by Tim and Debbie Bishop to publish and promote their first coauthored book, Two Are Better: Midlife Newlyweds Bicycle Coast to Coast, and has since grown as publisher of five titles. The latest Open Road Press book is the award-winning Wheels of Wisdom: Life Lessons for the Restless Spirit, a compilation of 52 "aha moments" from the Bishops' 10,000+ miles o

f self-supported, trans-America bicycle touring. Publishers Weekly dubbed it "a road map for life." A "seeker's devotional" from a Christian worldview, Wheels of Wisdom won the 2017 National Indie Excellence Award for inspiration, gold medal for Christian devotional in the 2017 Readers' Favorite International Book Awards contest, and bronze medal in the 2018 Illumination Awards, finishing behind books by New York Times bestselling authors Christine Caine and Sarah Young. In 2014, Open Road Press published a business ebook by Tim Bishop entitled Hedging Commodity Price Risk: A Small Business perspective. This book explains how small businesses can manage price risk associated with fluctuations in commodity prices by using futures, swaps, and options. Two Are Better is an inspirational story of love, life change, and faith--set within a cross-country "honeymoon on bicycles" for these first-timers to marriage and bicycle touring. The Bishops have also released Bicycle Touring How-To: What We Learned, an ebook that describes how they prepared for and conducted their first long-distance, self-supported bicycle tour. And in 2016, simultaneous with the release of Wheels of Wisdom, came Metaphors in Motion: Wisdom from the Open Road, a teaser ebook with eight more life lessons like those found in Wheels of Wisdom.

There’s always an escape.
Sometimes, you need to search long and hard for the right one.

After losing all he once cherished, Doug Zimmer follows his wife’s parting breadcrumbs and rides up the Pacific coast—on a bicycle. Armed with a pistol and only a vague plan to get through the months ahead, he aims to end his depression one way or the other.
As spiritual forces wrangle for his soul, he pedals eastward across America. He meets Lauren Baumgartner—a younger adventurer with a vibrant spirit—and a band of zealots who confront his aversion to religion. Accompanying Doug are not only sunny days and the beauty of nature but also the perils of the road, fellow travelers with their own stories, and the hollow silence of solitary campsites playing host to unseen creatures of the night.
A jarring episode on a climb through a treacherous pass brings Doug face-to-face with life and death. Will Doug’s adventure deliver him from loneliness and lament . . . or hurtle him to an abrupt end?

TIM BISHOP has bicycled many of the roads that Doug Zimmer travels in The Persistent Road. And having coached people struggling with similar issues, the author is familiar with his protagonist’s problems. Tim and his wife, Debbie, are coauthors of the award-winning Wheels of Wisdom.

Because people were praying for that bike tour, there were many God moments. There were so many spiritual lessons that we knew we had to share them.
