FOCUS Broadband's scholarship for local high school seniors is accepting applications until December 5, 2025 at 5 p.m. Ten outstanding seniors will each be awarded $2,000 for their fall 2026 semester of college. Applicants must have a FOCUS Broadband service in their homes to apply. Applications must also include official transcripts from the student’s current school to be considered
complete. Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, leadership in school and extracurricular activities, community service, and interview performance.

On September 25, Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity raised $47,000 at their annual golf tournament at Thistle Golf Club, where nearly 200 golfers got to play and support the Habitat for Humanity organization. The money raised broke the event record, and will go towards building affordable housing in Brunswick County!⁠

The Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce has opened voting for their annual Woman of the Year Award. Four women were nominated for their dedication to the community, their leadership and integrity, and their support of women in the workplace. The nominees are also members of the Chamber.

CEO of Christian Recovery Centers Josh Torbich will spend 24 hours sitting on a bench outside of Bed Land Mattress Warehouse in Shallotte. From 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 9 to 3 p.m. on Friday, October 10, he will have conversations with whoever sits on the bench with him. CRC hopes that these conversations can shift the narrative on homelessness, as well as increase awareness.⁠
