Following a hot and calm early part of Thursday, strong to potentially severe thunderstorms will become possible later this afternoon into this evening.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) in Norman, Oklahoma has given our region a "slight" risk of severe weather for this Thursday. Although this may not sound like much, this designation is only issued for our area a handful of times per year. The slight designation speaks to the confidence the SPC has in severe weather development in our general region. The biggest hazards surrounding storm development later today will focus around large hail and strong wind.
In terms of timing, it is possible that some of these strong thunderstorms may start popping off as soon as 3 PM or 4 PM this afternoon, but it is more likely that a majority of our region will hold off on storm activity until around 6 PM or later this evening.
