Pettengill Academy is an early learning childcare center specializing in Infant, Toddler, and Preschool care, with locations in Lewiston, Auburn, and Brunswick, Maine. Since opening in 2012, we’ve been dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing, and eco-healthy environment where children can grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

Owner/Director Chan

tel Pettengill, a certified teacher in Maine with concentrations in Mathematics and English Language Learning, began her career teaching middle school. After seeing many students enter school lacking essential skills, she and her husband Zack opened Pettengill Academy to ensure that children receive the best possible start in life.

📚 Our Philosophy
We blend the Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf approaches with Maine’s Early Learning Guidelines (aligned with Common Core). With child-led play and strong academics, our curriculum—powered by the research-based Funnydaffer program—encourages creativity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning. Music, art, creative movement, and plenty of outdoor play are part of every child’s day.

Yesterday we celebrated Grinch Day (aka Red & Green Day) and let’s just say… the littles UNDERSTOOD the assignment 😍🎄

From festive fits to big Grinchy smiles, our classrooms were full of holiday cheer, giggles, and just the right amount of mischief 💚❤️ These sweet faces proved that when it comes to spirit days, they show up and show OUT!

🎄 December Snack Idea: “Grinch Fruit Kabobs” ❤️💚

Ingredients:

Green grapes
Strawberries (tops cut off)
Banana slices
Mini marshmallows
Toothpicks or small skewers

How to Make Them:

Slide a green grape onto the toothpick (this is the Grinch’s head).

Add a banana slice.

Place the strawberry on next (pointy side up, it's the hat!).

Top it with a mini marshmallow.

That’s it...cute, festive, AND kid-approved!

The Pettengill Academy Difference

1. Natural Playground-

We have over 5,000 square feet of natural play space to help bring creativity back to play and give students an appreciation for the natural world around us. We also have almost 1,000 square feet of play space for our infants and toddlers that is rubber matted for additional safety for our younger students.

2. Relationship Based Care-

Communication with parents and families is extremely important to us at Pettengill Academy. We use a digital communication app called Kidreports to share the students day. It allows parents and teachers to message each other in a safe and secure way along with Daily Reports and pictures.

3. Care is Dependable and Reliable -

Parents and families can rely on us for consistent care as we strive to be open during most types of weather and we are typically closed for only 15 days per year which includes days for Teacher Training as well as Holidays.

4. PAO- Pettengill Academy Outreach -

Pettengill Academy believes in supporting our community that supports us. We participate in various local events such as the FEZtival of Trees and the Museum L/A Innovation Fair, help local agencies with by holding diaper drives, food drives and a collection to help our military servicemen and servicewomen serving overseas.

5. LEARN -

This is Pettengill Academy’s in house curriculum. It allows our teachers the flexibility in planning for the student’s interests and different levels of learning in each class while having a prepared map of development and academic standards for each classroom.

6. Family Owned and Operated-

Pettengill Academy is owned by Chantel and Zack Pettengill who are both second generation entrepreneurs and are onsite everyday.

7. Open Concept -

Encourages a collaborative community with our teaching staff and with our families.

8. Home Style Cooking-

Pettengill Academy prepares home style lunches and snacks using a 12 week rotating menu. These are prepared daily for lunch like no other.

9. Eco-Healthy Endorsement-

Pettengill Academy has proudly been endorsed by the Children’s Environmental Health Network which ensure that we use non-toxic pest prevention, promote recycling and the use of less toxic cleaning and sanitizing products.

10. Happy Family Guarantee -

We believe you and your family will love Pettengill Academy so much that we’re willing to take all the risk through our “Happy Family Guarantee”.
