Waha News - Fire & Ice reports Waha fire news and extreme weather reports

Hello friends and family. Things have been quiet up on the mountain for a while. It's been nice... Now that everyone is gearing up for fire season, we want everyone to know that we haven't given up on the idea of getting some kind of volunteer fire dept. going up here. Property has been the main issue, as we do have several trucks now and a handful of men ready to help out. We are still looking for more volunteers for NPC volunteer dept. as well, and are hoping we can tackle anything that gets thrown our way. There are a half a dozen smaller homemade brush trucks in Waha plus my pumper truck. We could use a tinder, but money is tight as we have no help. Please keep your eyes out for equipment and maybe a chunk of land to put everything on. Also, we know a lot of people like to fire off fireworks in Waha, we just ask that you don't. As a bunch of us live there. It is a Beautiful area - please respect it. We will again keep everyone posted in regards to fires and situations in our area. LOID is draining our lake as fast as they can this year (again), so boaters won't be able to launch anything other than paddle boards pretty quick. Please have a safe and fun summer. God Bless and Stay Frosty...

Hello again Waha neighbors and LC valley. It was certainly a slow ride in from the mountain this morning. The plows have been out, but there is still a lot of snow and ice on the road between the 21 ranch and the top of the grade. The worst part is the mist as visibility is only about fifty to a hundred feet in places all the way to the grade. Everything just kind of clears out on the way down the grade. On a positive note we have about a foot or More snow as of yesterday and last night up around Eagle Creek area. Please drive safe Keep warm but stay frosty. God bless.

Good morning LC Valley. Just a quick heads up. We had a few more inches of snow this weekend and the roads are a bit slick still. The plows are out and it has warmed up into the 30s, so what was ice is turning into slush from the 21 ranch up to Palmer parking lot. Please drive safe and keep your eyes open. There are a lot of suicidal deer just waiting to jump in front of someone... keep warm and stay frosty. God Bless

Greetings LC valley, Neighbors friends and family. Looks like this is going to be a perfect weekend for the sledding hills. Since yesterday we've got 13 inches of new snow here. And about a foot and a half up top at eagle creek. There is a lot of ice underneath that snow so please be careful. The plows have been out doing what they can. But theres still a mess on the roads so please drive safe and be considerate of those that should not be out driving... There hasn't been much to write about this winter. But I have a feeling that's going to change, so we will try to keep you updated as we can. Ya'll be safe and GOD BLESS. Stay warm and be frosty...

Well well well, I guess it
Is officially winter up here on the mountain. Snow is falling and it is trying to accumulate. We have traded in our turnouts for our snowsuits again in this never ending cycle we call seasons. They seem to come and go faster the older I get. Go figure. Our friends and family down at the Waha Grill are doing Thanksgiving dinner again this year free of charge as usual and we are all very grateful for their generosity. Hope to see you all. It is starting to get cold enough to make the roads a bit slick, so be careful and mindful. We will try to keep everyone aware of the road conditions as we normally do. We again would like to thank our firefighters, first responders and local sheriff's for all they do here on the mountain. Salt of the earth men and women putting their ass on the line every time they gear up. God Bless them and God Bless you. Keep warm - but stay Frosty...

Wildfire Alert: Gwen Fire – Current as of 9:00 AM PT on 7/31/2024
Idaho Department of Lands sent this bulletin at 07/31/2024 10:58 AM MDT
Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team Three
Bill Waln, Incident Commander
Location: 5 miles east Lapwai, Idaho
Date Reported: July 24, 2024
Cause: Lightning
Size: 28,805 acres
Containment: 34%
Total Personnel: 269

JOIN US FOR A COMMUNITY MEETING IN DEARY at the Deary Volunteer Fire Department at 301 2nd Ave in Deary, ID, or tune in for the live stream on the Idaho Department of Lands page.

Current Situation: (Refer to the map for Division locations)

Firefighters took advantage of the break in the weather and were able to make good progress in finding and extinguishing hot spots in all areas of the fire yesterday. Containment increased to 34 percent. The containment areas can be seen on the map where the perimeter line is black instead of red.
Today in areas of the fire that are uncontained, crews will be cold trailing. Cold trailing is a process where firefighters inspect and feel heat with their hands, if needed, to make sure no hotspots remain on the fireline that could compromise containment.
In Division Foxtrot on the northeast side of the fire, crews continue to work in the Pine Creek drainage where large logs and vegetation is still holding heat. They will be supported by aviation resources if needed.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or drones will be utilized today to catalog firelines that have been constructed for suppression efforts as well as identifying hotspots using infrared capabilities.
The Structure Protection Group will continue to work along the Highway 12 corridor and Tom Beall Road. Please allow for more time when traveling on the highways through the fire area. Hazards remain in and around the fire footprint.
The structure group is also working to secure pockets of unburned fuel within the fire perimeter. If this unburned vegetation would ignite it would pose a threat to homes and structures inside the fire perimeter.

And yet people are wondering why our land and air has become so volatile. As long as the "powers to be " are allowed to keep spraying us, our lands will burn as never before...

Silver iodide has been the dominant ingredient for cloud seeding in the West, but it doesn't work well in warm temperatures.
