Here are baby names that remind us of the joy of the Christmas season:

Girl baby names:

Noel: reminds us of the angels announcing Jesus’ birth with their song

Mary: Jesus’ mother

Belen: meaning Bethlehem in Spanish and Hebrew

Holly: the red berries of this Christmastime greenery symbolize Christ’s blood, the sharp thorns symbolize his crown of thorns and the evergreen leaves symbolize eternal life

Eve: the first woman, whose feast day is Christmas Eve

Joy: reminds us of the joy of Christ’s birth

Gloria: the angelic song of the angels announcing Christ’s birth

Angelina: a form of “angel” to remind us of the heavenly hosts who announced Christ’s birth

Boy baby names:

Emmanuel: one of the names of Jesus, meaning “God is with us”

Nicholas: for Saint Nicholas

Gabriel: the angel Gabriel spoke to Joseph and Mary several times regarding Jesus’ birth

Joseph: foster father of Jesus and protector of their family

Casper or Jasper: one of the three kings who brought gifts to Jesus, thought to be from India

David: Jesus is in the line of David, which is why he was in Bethlehem, the City of David, for the census

Adam: the first man, whose feast day is Christmas Eve

Stephen: St. Stephen was the first martyr, whose feast day is Dec. 26

Babies born at Christmastime remind us in a special way of the birth of our Savior and how Mary must have felt as she saw little Jesus for the first time. I hope you find some inspiration from these names for your Christmas baby! Merry Christmas!

As we wrap up 2024, I’ve had the joy of creating many custom Catholic baby books for expectant moms and dads all over the US. Here are 3 Catholic baby girl name trends that we’re going to see in 2025:

1. Names from the Eucharistic prayer: Felicity, Perpetua, Agatha, Lucy, Agnes, Cecilia, Anastasia. These traditional, but not over-used names are making a comeback for their beauty and deep connection to the early martyrs who gave their lives for Christ. These women are known for their bravery and holiness and would be a great name for a little one in today’s world.

2. Marie as a middle name. Marie has been an extremely popular Catholic middle name in 2024 and we’re going to see more of it in 2025. This timeless French variation of Our Lady’s name, Mary, is so sweet and matches beautifully with most first names.

3. Names that represent a saint or holy place. Saints have symbols that represent them and their patronage. Here are some sweet girls’ names with a hidden meaning.

Flor: meaning flower for St. Therese, the Little Flower.

Lily: the Lilly is the symbol of St. Joseph and St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Lilly of the Mohawks

Roma: After the holy city of Rome, homeplace of the Church

Lourdes: The site where Our Lady appeared in France to St. Bernadette.

I’d love to hear what you or your friends and family are planning to name your little girls to be born in 2025!

Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc,
et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

Why learn to pray in Latin? Latin connects us to the heritage of the Church. It has “long been the medium of dialogue between faith and reason.” Since it’s no longer a living language, it doesn’t change its meaning over time.

Follow for more about the role that Latin plays in the Church and our faith today! Check out our website for more about getting your copy of The Essential Latin Hymnal for Children and Families.

Lent is coming up! Here are some ways you can observe Lent with little ones. We like to pick one from each category to focus on. How do you observe Lent with toddlers?

Prayer
- Start your day together in prayer
- Read a children’s Bible
- Learn a new hymn
- Pray at least a decade of the Rosary
- Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet
- Learn a prayer like the Guardian Angel Prayer
- Memorize a verse from Scripture

Fasting
- Give up sweets on Fridays
- Give up screens in the car
- Offer them a meatless option for their meals on Fridays when you are abstaining

Almsgiving
- Pick a toy to donate
- CRS Rice Bowl
- Donate a chick, goat, bike, or Bibles through Samaritan’s Purse (this is really fun to look through the catalog of what you can buy for a family in need)
- Let little one put cash in the poor box

Praying the Rosary with toddlers…

It’s easier than you might think! The first step is to start. If you have a bedtime routine or any time in the car, these could be good times to start praying the rosary with kids.

Don’t worry if it isn’t easy at first. Children love routine and repetition. Even if they fall asleep or don’t seem to be listening or participating, they are learning from your example.
