We throw that line aroundâđâmany are called, but few are chosenâđâlike itâs about us Gentiles sitting in American churches. But slow down...and think.
That verse sits on top of Israelâs story, not ours.
God already had a chosen people: Israel. The Jews were the people of the covenant, the law, the prophets, the promises.
For thousands of years God called, warned, pleaded, judged, restored. Many in Israel were called; the invitation was real, constant, and clear.
But only a remnant ever truly walked with Him.
Then Jesus shows up as Israelâs Messiah. And what does He do? He doesnât start with the Gentiles. He doesnât start with Rome.
He goes straight to Israel and from within that nation He calls disciplesâand out of many Jews He chooses twelve.
Thatâs the pattern: many called, few chosen, now brought into sharp focus.
Those twelve Jewish apostles are the âfew chosenâ in living, breathing form.
They are the ones handpicked out of the called of Israel to carry the testimony of Christ to the world.
The foundation of the church is their witness about His death, burial, and resurrection.
We are not the âfew chosenâ in Matthew 22:14âwe are the ones who believe on the message preached by the few who were chosen. Those 12.
So when I quote, âmany are called, but few are chosen,â Iâm not grabbing a motivational slogan for modern Christians.
Iâm pointing back to Godâs dealings with Israel and then to those twelve JEWISH men Jesus set apart.
The Jews were called as a people; the twelve apostles were the few chosen out of the many.
And you and I are saved today because we believed the gospel that came through their testimony.
Thats Beautiful. It's True. đ
