No shows this weekend, but starting next weekend I’ll be kicking off a five-week run with events every Friday and Saturday night. I’m booked for five weddings along with several private parties, and I couldn’t be more excited.

This season will also be a little different—I’ll have my mom joining me on the road as part of the team. It’s her first time experiencing these events with me, and she’s looking forward to it just as much as I am.

This weekend we’ll be preparing the van, organizing the equipment, cleaning, and making sure everything is ready to go for next weekend.

One of the most important details to make sure your event goes smoothly is providing the right kind of power. Professional DJ equipment uses speakers, mixers, amps, and lights that all need steady electricity.

For the best results, your DJ should be plugged into a dedicated 20-amp circuit. This type of outlet provides enough power for the system without risking overloads or tripped breakers.

It’s also important that DJs do not use GFCI outlets. These are the ones with the little “test” and “reset” buttons you often see in kitchens, bathrooms, or outdoor areas. They are great for safety in those spaces, but they are so sensitive that they can shut down the music system unexpectedly.

And if an extension cord is needed, a 12-gauge heavy-duty cord up to 100 feet long is the safest option to keep power strong. For longer distances, a thicker cord should be used.

By making sure your DJ has a dedicated 20-amp, non-GFCI outlet and the proper extension cord, you’re helping guarantee the music keeps playing all night without interruptions.
