The fastest Oyster Shuckers from across the United States gather at the US Oyster Festival in St. Mary's County, every third weekend in October, to compete in the U.S. National Oyster Shucking Championship Contest. Contestants are timed on how fast they open 24 oysters. But in oyster shucking contests, neatness counts. A contestant's tray of oysters is then judged on presentation and time is ADDED to their opening time. Men and women compete in separate divisions. For the championship, the women's champ and the men's champ go head-to-head for the U.S. crown. The winner gets bragging rights, of course, and an all-expenses paid trip to Galway, Ireland to compete in the International Contest representing the United States against champs from countries around the globe.

The procession for fallen firefighter, Brice Trossbach, winds its way through Lexington Park, Maryland. The procession traveled from the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department to Naval Air Station Patuxent River, then to the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department, and made its way north past the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department.
Our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and extended firehouse family. What a wonderful tribute to a fallen hero 🖤❤️🖤

Last week we were notified we won two Silver “Telly Awards” for programs produced in 2022. This honor marks our twelfth Telly Award. One program produced for the National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) is titled, “Challenges and Tactics for Fighting Row House Fires.” The national distributed training video highlights tactics that firefighters should follow when fighting row house fires and makes them aware of the potential dangers based on features specific to row houses. The second program was produced locally for Historic Sotterley and is titled, “Sotterley: Talking and Walking Common Ground.” The production highlights Sotterley’s Common Ground Initiative and the Descendants project. It explores the various perspectives between the diverse descendants as they discuss Sotterley’s past and its impact on their lives.
The Telly Awards is the premier award honoring video and television across all screens. Established in 1979, The Telly Awards receives over 12,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents. Entrants are judged by The Telly Awards Judging Council—an industry body of over 200 leading experts including advertising agencies, production companies, and major television networks.
