Did you think we were going to take some time off from blinding after the best of 2024? Not a chance. One night about a month ago, Steven sent a message to our group text and asked if any of us have ever had the newer age stated 7 year Beam. After a skeptical response from Kenny, an idea was born. We decided to do a blind of 7 year old bourbons. The bottles in this blind are: Old Louisville 7 year bourbon/Premier Drams 7 year bourbon/Jim Beam 7 Year bourbon/Heaven Hill Bib 7 year/Nashville Barrel Co. 7 year bourbon/Old Ezra 7 Year. Since then, the brand has grown exponentially and gained a pretty solid following. Colonel E. H. Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey is the 13th release to join the famed E. H. Taylor Collection from the Buffalo Trace Distillery. This rye is uncut and unfiltered. Even though little is known about the age or mashbill of this whiskey, it comes in at a whooping 126 proof. This release has been rumored for many years, but the fact that it is finally here is very exciting. However, the reviews on this one have been incredibly mixed with some expressing love and others describing it as lackluster. What do we think? You’ll have to listen to find out. Once again, we are joined by our good friend Jason from Arsenic Culture. This episode is loaded with laughs and is definitely one of the most honest whiskey reviews that you’re gonna hear all week long. 🥃

Redwood Empire gained notoriety early on by sourcing and bottling some excellent whiskey. Nestled in the heart of wine country on the Russian River in California, these distillers recently released 8 year cask strength single barrels of their own distillate. For this weeks short, we taste and review one of these bottles compliments of our good friend (and listener), Andrew. Even though this episode is a shorty, it’s chock full of Mash Up goodness. They also have been distilling their own whiskey for over 10 years. On today’s episode, we open and taste an 11 year old rye whiskey that was distilled, aged, and bottled by Willett. With so many people chasing the older bottles that are sourced from other distillers, we give you our honest opinion of this whiskey that is 100% produced by Willett. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. Over the past month, we tasted and reviewed 66 different whiskeys for our annual “Best of Blinds” extravaganza. Six people tasting, rating each whiskey on a scale of 1-10 - blind. After the prelims, this is where things stand.

Coming in at 95 proof and carrying an 11 year age statement, this liquid was matured in a heat cycled warehouse (Warehouse “I” to be exact). This, it is not your standard offering from Old Forester. While this bourbon was created for Repeal Day, we thought it would be good to crack on Christmas Eve. Bardstown Bourbon Company is known for it’s collaboration series. For this week, we taste and review TWO of the newer offerings in this series. The first, Silver Oak, is a collaboration between BBC and Silver Oak Wine makers in California. To make this batch, an eclectic blend of 6 different straight bourbon whiskeys was finished in Silver Oak Cabernet barrels for 17 months. The result...well...you’ll have to listen. The second, Amrut, is a collaboration between BBC and the Amrut Distillery which is a famed single malt maker in India. To create to collab, rye was first finished in used Amrut barrels and then blended with bourbon. Do you think we liked this one? Join us this week as we laugh, talk about the holidays, and about a proposed law in Ohio that is nothing short of cringe worthy. To the finish we go! 🥃

Surprises come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes they come in a really nice box that contains a bottle of bourbon that is hand numbered to 589. This years release of Michter’s 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is one of the rarest and most allocated bottles that we’ve ever laid our eyes on. But, how did we get our hands on it and how does it taste? Well, in the midst of our 2024 “best of blinds,” we decided to call an audible and add a few more whiskeys to the competition. Unbeknownst to us all, our buddy Ryan Alves pulled out all the stops and casually showed up with this bottle in hand.
