Getting off to a slow start and struggling with injuries, the Rockbridge County High School football team suffered a 49-13 road loss to Shenandoah District rival Waynesboro on Friday night. After Waynesboro (1-3 overall, 1-1 district) raced to a 28-0 halftime lead, the Wildcats (0-4, 0-2) scored both of their touchdowns in the fourth quarter, on a 19-yard pass from Taylan Tyree to Brenden Staley and on a 4-yard run by John Clements. The Wildcats will play host to Stuarts Draft (3-1, 2-0) next Friday at 7 p.m. at Prasnicki-Ross Field at Veterans Stadium in Lexington. In its most dominant win this season, the Parry McCluer High School football team coasted to a 35-0 win in its homecoming game against Stonewall Jackson on Friday night at Robert E. Williams Field in Buena Vista. The Fighting Blues (3-1) raced to a 28-0 halftime lead and added a touchdown in the second half while shutting out the Generals (0-3). The Blues will play host to Luray (3-1) next Friday at 7 p.m. The story, photos, stats and a prediction for next week will be in our Sept. 23 newspaper.

A valiant effort by the Rockbridge County High School volleyball team came up short on Thursday night, as the Wildcats suffered a 3-1 home loss to Shenandoah District rival Alleghany in Lexington. Coming off 3-0 wins earlier this week over Parry McCluer and at Waynesboro, the Wildcats (3-6 overall, 1-5 district) tested the Cougars (9-1, 3-1), but Alleghany finished strong to earn a 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 25-16 victory. The City of Lexington will host three community conversations with members of city staff and staff of Lexington City Schools over the next several weeks to discuss the proposed Local Option Sales Tax referendum that is on the ballot in November. The first of these conversations will be held on Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. in the Waddell Elementary School cafeteria.

Good luck to the Rockbridge County High School competition cheerleaders in the Wildcat Rumble tonight, Wednesday, in the RC gym. The competition is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., with the Wildcats slated to perform at 8. Admission is $7. We'll have a story and photos in our Sept. 23 newspaper.
