It's that time of year again. 🏡🍂🍁
TAMARA'S FALL HOME MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST
1. Weatherproof your windows and doors.
2. Call a chimney sweep to clean chimney and inspect for damage.
3. Check and change the batteries in alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
4. Clean out your dryer vent.
5. Replace your furnace filters. (monthly)
6. Have a window air conditioner unit?
Remove and store or cover the condenser with plastic to protect it.
7. Check for dampness in your basement.
8. Check and test your sump pump.
9. Use grape or cherry Koolaid or food coloring in a toilet tank to check your seals.
10. Make sure caulking around bathroom fixtures is sufficient to prevent water damage.
11. Drain your hot water heater and remove sediment.
12. Check your outdoor painted surfaces for chipped paint and mildew.
13. Cut and stack wood for your fireplaces. Be certain to keep most of your wood stacked well away from your house to prevent fire damage and wood destroying insects.
14. Clean and store your outdoor furniture.
15. Check the drainage around your home for standing water.
16. Lubricate your garage door’s chains and roller mechanisms.
17. Trim trees and remove limbs that could damage your home during high winds, ice and snow storms.
18. Inspect your outdoor lights and remove any bird nests or insect debris from inside fixtures.
19. Inspect exterior walkways and repair safety problems.
20. Clean the gutters and downspouts. Clogged gutters can create serious problems.
21. Unhook the hoses from your outdoor water spigots.
Now you can relax and enjoy your home!
